Great Car Faceoff: The Champion

Champ

Well, at least you can't say the fix was in. In a contest where our seeding was roundly questioned, the title match came down to a No. 6 seed versus a No. 7 seed. Oh, well. There's always next year.

As for the 350Z, the fans came out of the woodwork early and often. And what passionate fans they are: They were happy to tackle each and every foe, but they took particular joy in voting down the popular — and controversial — Mini Cooper, which some voters claimed had been "fixed" as the winner of the contest. Among the comments: "The Z totally dominates the Mini in every way — for speed and performance, on the road, on the track, from a stoplight, careening around the corner on two wheels while trying to lose the police trailer ... well, you get the picture."

Here are all the cars the 350Z had to vanquish on its way to the title:

  • Scion tC
  • Chevy Corvette
  • Porsche Cayman
  • BMW 335
  • Mini Cooper
  • BMW X5

So, congrats to the 350Z. We'll see how it fares in next year's voting.

Great Car Faceoff: And Now the Championship

Gcfff2

The long road through the Great Car Faceoff is close to ending. While we don’t believe in foregone conclusions, the fandom surrounding the Nissan 350Z launched it past the popular Mini Cooper and should carry it past the BMW X5 in the championship round, which runs today through tomorrow morning.

Make sure you go vote this one last time to make sure your voice is heard in our first Great Car Faceoff.

Great Car Faceoff: The Four Contenders

Gcfff

They’re not pretenders, that’s for sure, though some BMW 335 fans may think one of them is. The four vehicles to make it this far through The Great Car Faceoff are now battling to make it to the championship round. The matchups look like this:

  • Mini Cooper vs. Nissan 350Z
  • Chevy Tahoe vs. BMW X5

Vote now to make sure your favorite goes to the final round. With the lone exception of one vehicle, this is pretty much how we predicted things going, but you can never count out a loyal online fanbase in contests such as these. Good luck.

Great Car Faceoff: The Final Eight

Gcfx5

Oh boy. This isn’t going to go well. Yesterday, the closest match was between two of the most popular vehicles in America, the Ford F-150 and the Chevy Silverado. The votes were tallied, and the F-150 won by the narrowest of margins. It could’ve been worse: Up until around 10 a.m., it was 50/50, and we handle ties with the higher seed moving on to the next round. The higher seed here is indeed the F-150. Our top seedings were determined by overall sales, not editorial choice like the lower half of the bracket. Thank goodness there was still a majority for the winner, though.

Sorry, Chevy fans, we were betting on the Silverado, too.

Of course, there were three other contests yesterday, and you can check out the winning votes here.

Today we open the voting for the final eight vehicles, with the last four going at it tomorrow. Make sure your vehicle makes it that far. We’re guessing that the BMW 335 vs. Nissan 350Z matchup will be the most hotly contested.

Despite a valiant effort by Porsche Cayman fans, the 350Z and its contingent of diehards kept it alive another round. Will it be able to take on the BMW 335? Bimmer-philes watch out. You can check out all the winners from the first half of the Final 16 here.

Today, the Final 8 gets rounded out as the top SUVs, trucks and minivans battle it out. All we know for sure is one Chevy will definitely win. The toughest contest has to be the Cadillac Escalade versus the BMW X5.

Great Car Faceoff: The Final 16

Gcf350z

The Nissan fans came out in force last night to catapult the 350Z into the Final 16 of the Great Car Faceoff. That was the lone surprise in the final bracket, with the BMW 335, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Porsche Cayman all easily winning their contests. You can see the full results here.

That means today we move right into the next round, where we’ll see if the 350Z can keep its streak going against the Porsche Cayman, as well as whether the Mini Cooper will be able to easily handle the Mazda6.

Great Car Faceoff: Pickups/Luxury SUVs Round 2 Results

Gcff150

It was a tough fight, but the long-dominant Ford F-150 pulled it out against the new Toyota Tundra to advance to the next round of the Great Car Faceoff. It will there take on the new Chevy Silverado, which had to mercifully take down its sibling, the GMC Sierra, to advance. Check out all the winners here.

Today, is the last set of second-round action, this time in the Luxury Passenger Cars/Sports Cars bracket. Will the Porsche Cayman reign supreme? Will the BMW 335 make it to the next round? You decide.

Great Car Faceoff: SUV/Minivan Round 2 Results In

Gcfsuburban

We know SUVs and Minivans aren’t as exciting as sports cars, but it seems there are still some fans of certain models out there. The Chevy Tahoe was the big winner with the widest margin of victory with the fight between the Ford Explorer and Chevy Suburban being the tightest. Check out the full results.

Then go vote on today’s bracket, where the second round continues with Pickups and Luxury SUVs. The most significant matchup looks to be the Ford F-150 against the new Toyota Tundra. Let the commenting begin.

Great Car Faceoff: Round 2 Passenger Car Winners

Gcfcrownvic

You knew it couldn’t last. The Ford Crown Victoria, despite its fervent fans couldn’t stand up to the ultra-popular Mini Cooper. There have been wild claims of jury rigging against Cars.com resulting in the outcome. That’s simply not true. We’ve actually built numerous safeguards into the Great Car Faceoff since the contest launched, just so there could be no funny stuff. Crown Vic fans need to take their close finish and be satisfied that their ride performed as well as it did.

Check out the rest of the winners from yesterday and don’t forget to vote today in Round 2 of the SUV/Minivan bracket. Best matchup of the day: The No. 1 seed Dodge Caravan against the No. 2 seed Honda Odyssey.

Great Car Faceoff: Round 2 Begins

Gcfcayman

The first round of the first annual Great Car Faceoff has ended and before we move on, we have to look back at how the voting went yesterday.

The toughest contest was between the Chevy Corvette and the Mazda MX-5. Who knew the little roadster could take on an American icon? The ‘Vette still won out. Speaking of American icons, the Ford Mustang had a tough time fending off the Porsche Cayman. It seems a German amphibian reptile can tackle an American equine.

Today begins round two of our faceoff, and we return to the passenger car bracket where the spotlight shines on the Cinderella Ford Crown Victoria matching up against the popular and cute Mini Cooper. Now that the voting system has stabilized, we’ll see if the Crown Vic fans can rally the troops and push it past the Mini.
