Recall Alert: 2012-2014 Nissan Frontier

2013NissanFrontier

Vehicles Affected: About 13,535 model-year 2012-2014 Nissan Frontier pickup trucks manufactured between Nov. 28, 2012, and Dec. 17, 2013.

The Problem: A circuit breaker may have been installed incorrectly, causing the main wire harness to the circuit breaker to face outward, potentially contacting a metal bolt on the A-pillar. The bolt could wear through the wire harness covering, resulting in an electrical short, which could cause a fire.

The Fix: Nissan will notify owners starting in March, and dealers will inspect the circuit-breaker orientation and, if necessary, repair it for free.

What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Nissan at 800-647-7261 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov for more info.

Recall Alert: 2012 Nissan Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra

2012-nissan-pathfinder
Nissan is recalling 2,417 model-year 2012 versions of the Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra pickup trucks and SUVs due to problems with the front-wheel hubs, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The affected vehicles were manufactured from June 19 through July 12 (check your vehicle's build date on a sticker on the driver-side doorjamb) and have front wheel hubs that may wear prematurely and eventually crack. This could reduce the driver's ability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Nissan will notify owners starting Oct. 8, and dealers will replace the affected parts free of charge. Owners can call Nissan at 800-647-7261 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 for more info.

Cars.com Family Reviews the 2012 Nissan Frontier

12Frontier

Parents looking for a pickup truck that can fit three child-safety seats across its backseat need look no further than the 2012 Nissan Frontier with a crew cab, according to Cars.com Family contributor Courtney Messenbaugh, a mom of three. While she was impressed by its roominess, she wasn’t thrilled with the Frontier PRO-4X’s handling. This version of the truck is made for off-roading, but on pavement it felt downright clumsy.

Nissan Confirms New Rogue for 2013

Nissan Hi-Cross Concept

Buried within the news about the launch of the 2013 Nissan Altima, Nissan confirmed that it's preparing an all-new version of its Rogue compact crossover. We don't know much beyond that, but we expect the model to be heavily influenced by the Hi-Cross Concept shown at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

The concept was a seven-passenger compact crossover featuring the Rogue's inline-four engine along with a new turbocharged four-cylinder coupled to a hybrid powertrain, and a new continuously variable automatic transmission. It seems perfectly reasonable to expect all those powertrains on the new Rogue, given the competitive nature of the segment.

Recall Alert: 2011-12 Suzuki Equator

2011-12 Suzuki Equator
Suzuki is recalling 73 2011 and 2012 Equator pickups due to faulty engine bolts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Only one 2012 model is affected; the rest are 2011 models, Suzuki says.

In the affected vehicles, the bolts connecting the engine oil cooler and the engine oil filter to the engine may have been manufactured below specification. As a result, the bolt could break and cause an engine oil leak. If there is a leak, the engine oil warning lamp will illuminate, and the engine may become noisy. If the driver ignores the condition, the engine could seize, increasing the risk of a crash.

The safety concern was investigated by Nissan, which builds the Equator for the Japanese carmaker. The Nissan Frontier, which is a near clone of the Equator, is currently undergoing the same recall, as well as other SUVs and cargo vans.

Suzuki will notify owners Jan 19. The repair to the engine connector bolts will be covered by each owner's vehicle warranty, Suzuki says. For more info, owners can call Suzuki at 714-996-7040 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236.

Nissan will begin notifying owners on Jan. 19. Nissan and Infiniti dealers will inspect and replace relevant parts free of charge. For more info, owners can call Nissan at 800-647-7261 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236.

Breaking Down Nissan's Year End Sales Event

Breaking Down Nissan's Year End Sales Event

Nissan has traditionally given bigger discounts than its more frugal Japanese cousins — Toyota and Honda — and for December, that yuletide tradition continues.

Nissan is offering a wide array of hefty cash-back and low-financing options across its entire lineup, barring new entries like the Juke or the GT-R sports car. Relatively inexpensive models like the Versa have up to $2,000 cash back. The relatively new but slow-selling Cube also gets $500 cash back. The Altima Hybrid, which is sold in limited markets, has up to $4,000 cash back on it, depending on the region.

Unlike some brands, which are nearly done with the switch to the 2011 model year, nearly 40% of Nissan’s inventory is from the 2010 model year, so these 2010 deals should be somewhat easy to come by.

All highlighted models have 0% to 3.9% financing for 60 to 72 months, depending on the model. Most of these deals are good until Jan. 3.

If you’re looking for a lease deal, you may be somewhat disappointed. We could find only three models – the Altima, Rouge and Sentra – that have subvented leasing plans, and all three require largish money-down agreements.

Recall Alert: Nissan Frontier, Xterra, Sentra

Nissan Sentra Nissan has announced a voluntary safety recall to replace the lower steering column joint and shaft on 2002-04 Frontier and Xterra vehicles and to replace the positive battery cable terminal on 2010 Sentra vehicles in the U.S.

In the affected Frontier and Xterra vehicles, Nissan discovered that corrosion can develop over time on the lower steering column joint, eventually limiting steering movement. In extreme cases, the corrosion can lead to cracking of the steering shaft, resulting in a loss of a control of the vehicle and increasing the likelihood of a crash. In the affected Sentra models, there can be potential issues with the connector on the positive battery cable terminal, resulting in starting difficulties. In some rare cases, the vehicle could stall at low speeds and cause an accident.

No accidents or injuries have been reported with either issue. Overall, 240,000 Frontier vehicles, 261,000 Xterra vehicles and 14,000 Sentra vehicles are included in the recall for the U.S.

Nissan plans to notify owners in early December once replacement parts are made available. The repairs will take place at Nissan dealerships at no charge. For more information, customers can call Nissan’s hot line at 800-647-7261.
