BMW adds a hatchback Gran Turismo model to the 3 Series lineup for 2014. Hatchbacks seem to be a growing trend at BMW as the new 3 Series GT is the second such vehicle to join the BMW Gran Turismo family alongside the larger 5 Series GT.

A wagon version of the 3 Series made its debut at the recent 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, and now a bigger, roomier hatchback version is in the spotlight. The new 3 Series Gran Turismo, almost 8 inches longer than the wagon, welcomes cargo with a generous 18.3 cubic feet of space. A 40/20/40 split folding backseat folds with the pull of levers, and the 3 Series GT’s hatch opens and closes with just a swipe of your foot underneath the rear bumper.

2014 Buick Regal Photo Gallery

Buick's attractive Regal gets a more athletic look, more horsepower and more features inside and out for 2014. While cosmetic changes aren't over the top, new headlights and taillights with LED accents are the most noticeable.

Following in the steps of the LaCrosse, the Regal's cabin loses a lot of buttons and gains better interior trim. The gauge cluster features a new, customizable 8-inch display. There are also more new safety features available like forward collision alert, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring.

The biggest changes come under the hood, as the optional turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gets a big boost in power, now making 259 horsepower and 295 pounds-feet of torque in both the Regal GS and Turbo models.

Buyers seeking pure driving fun should consider the Regal GS, which has a sport-tuned suspension, six-speed manual transmission, Buick's Interactive Driver Control, big Brembo brakes and a refreshed, more aggressive appearance for 2014.

2013 New York Auto Show Winners and Losers

2014 Chevrolet Camaro

The New York International Auto Show proved to be one of the busiest of the auto-show season. Its two preview days were overflowing with new and redesigned cars that had Cars.com editors Mike Hanley, Joe Wiesenfelder, Joe Bruzek and Aaron Bragman scrambling through the Javits Center. With tired feet, we offer the hits and misses of the show.

Check out the Luxury Cars Winners and Losers here.

2014 Chevrolet Camaro

Mike Hanley: Loser
The new slimmer front grille is a small change that achieves dramatic results, making an already sinister sports car even more so. I know the new taillights have a retro influence, but I'm not a fan and prefer the ones on the current car. What's more, it doesn't look like Chevrolet has done anything to address the Camaro's weight problem or ridiculously bad visibility.

Aaron Bragman: Loser
I'm not a fan of this update. The Camaro has now looked as it does for seven years — since the concept debuted in 2006 — and the first refresh we get is this? The interior is still uncomfortable, poorly laid out and made from awful-quality plastics, and not even the arrival of a track monster, the Z/28, can distract from that. With a new Ford Mustang coming next year and a new Dodge Challenger coming in two, you'd have thought Chevy would have gone farther.

2014 Chevrolet SS: Up Close

8601011828_e93ee3c1f7_b
One of the unfortunate effects of Pontiac getting the boot back in 2009 was the G8's premature departure. We don't miss much else of Pontiac, just the V-8-powered, rear-wheel-drive G8 GT. With the 2014 Chevrolet SS, we kind of get the G8 back in the form of a full-size sedan with a V-8 and rear-wheel drive but with a Chevrolet badge instead of a Pontiac one.

The Chevrolet SS takes a huge leap forward in offering a more upscale interior experience compared to the now 5-year-old G8. While both the G8 and SS share development with the Australian Holden Commodore, the SS is based on a next-generation successor of the car the G8 was based on.

2014 Jeep Cherokee Video

2014JeepCherokee

Yeah, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee — now bowing at the 2013 New York International Auto Show — bears a resemblance to the froggy-faced Nissan Juke. But give Jeep credit for an uncharacteristic departure as it replaces the Liberty with the first Cherokee in a dozen years.

Those squinty, high-set LED running lights and low-lying headlights aside, Cars.com reviewer Joe Wiesenfelder observes that the side and rear profiles are as mundane as most SUVs. The automaker keeps things interesting with new innovations: a nine-speed automatic transmission and optional 271-horsepower, 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6. The interior is impressive and tech features abundant, though the claustrophobia-inducing backseat and cargo space fail to honor the "midsize SUV" designation. Watch the video below.

2014 Scion tC Photo Gallery

Tc1

Scion's sporty coupe, the tC, has been redesigned for 2014, and on first glance, you'll notice a front end similar to that of Scion’s newest sports car, the FR-S. A new grille design has Toyota influences, and there are new headlights and standard LED taillights.

While the tC's 179-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine remains the same, there's a new recalibrated six-speed automatic transmission that buyers can choose over the a six-speed manual. Engineers also retuned the suspension and stiffened up the body for better handling. Interior materials have been improved, and there's a new standard 6.1-inch touch-screen.

2014 Chevrolet Camaro: Up Close

8595266423_f4e05383d2_b
With new front and rear styling, the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro is different up front, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's better or worse. Did Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Chuck Liddell with his signature mohawk act as inspiration for the hood heat extractor?

More 2013 New York Auto Show Coverage

The rear styling is what stands out compared to the 2013. New taillights ditch the previous cheap chrome-trimmed quad taillights in favor of dual rectangular ones that better mimic a classic first-generation Camaro. Fans of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette can no longer complain it has Camaro taillights.

2014 Mitsubishi Mirage: Up Close

MitsubishiMirage

We reported in 2012 that Mitsubishi was undecided on bringing its global Mirage hatchback to the U.S. Well, the Mirage has finally materialized. Pricing is still pending, but Yoichi Yokozawa, president of the automaker's U.S. arm, told reporters Mitsubishi will price the tiny Mirage to compete with the Chevrolet Spark, which starts at $12,995 including destination.

More 2013 New York Auto Show Coverage

A chrome package gussied up the car on display at the New York International Auto Show, but there's little else to describe. The formless bumper leads into equally bland styling around the sides and back. Inside, the front seats have decent adjustment range, but the Mirage's optional knob-style seat height adjuster moves only the bottom cushion, not the whole seat. Crank yours up and the backrest lumbar meets your spine at a lower point. It's not comfortable.

2014 Volvo V60 Photo Gallery

Another wagon is heading our way. Volvo plans to bring its V60, based on the midsize S60 sedan, to the U.S. for the 2014 model year.

While we don't know all the details, we do know that the V60 wagon is set to go on sale early next year. Inside there’s seating for five, with a 40/20/40-split folding backseat. On the outside, the V60 also shares some styling with the its redesigned S60 sibling.

Expect powertrains and models to be similar to those available on the current S60 sedan such as a front-wheel-drive T5 and an enthusiast-oriented V60 R-Design — pictured here — with all-wheel drive.
