Chevrolet has a new small car in its stable for 2015 with the Trax SUV, revealed at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The bite-sized five-passenger SUV goes on sale in the U.S. early next year; it's been on sale in Canada, Mexico and other global markets since 2012. The Trax slots below the considerably larger Equinox and is closer in size to the Chevrolet Sonic and Cruze small cars.

Small doesn't mean basic, though, as Chevrolet will pump the Trax full of available connectivity and convenience features such as its 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Siri Eyes Free system, BringGo navigation app as well as optional all-wheel drive, leather trim and more. The Trax will be available in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels, and we'll know pricing closer to its on-sale date next year.

Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept: First Look and Gallery

13863729915_c3a9c1490b

Looks like: George Jetson's Land Rover with plenty of wraparound glass, rear-hinged doors, a sleek profile and laser headlights

Defining characteristics: Ultra-configurable seating for four to seven passengers as well as a host of from-the-future gadgets

Ridiculous features: It's the ultimate luxury toy with a remote control system that allows you to control the SUV from your smartphone

Chance of being mass-produced: Land Rover confirmed that a new family of vehicles under the Defender umbrella will be produced — we're betting not one of them will be remote-controlled

One thing we've noticed ahead of the 2014 New York International Auto Show is that concept cars are few and far between. In fact, Land Rover may have one of the only concept reveals — but what a concept it is. The Discovery Vision Concept gives us a hint at the automaker's plans for a family of new SUVs along with a glimpse into some pretty out-there technology.

Land Rover says the design embodies the "ultimate leisure SUV," and nowhere is that more apparent than inside. The cabin is finished in two types of washable and water- and oil-repellent leather along with wood veneer on the floors and instrument panel and Harris tweed accents — how very British.

The SUV concept's highly configurable cabin makes room for anywhere from four to seven passengers with seats that fold, slide and even convert into a tablelike surface. But don't start looking for the buttons and levers yet — all of this is done via a touch-screen menu.

Nissan's Smart Rearview Mirror Improves Rear Visibility

Nissan_Smart_Camera

Come 2016 or 2017, Nissan could have a better rearview mirror in some of its cars. After an initial rollout to its racecars and Japan-market vehicles, the automaker plans to introduce its new Smart Rearview Mirror to global markets over the next few years. The SRM uses a high-res rearview camera to overlay what's behind you — in real time — in the conventional rearview mirror. Drivers can alternate between the mirror and the monitor with a switch on the bottom of the mirror frame.

Which Small SUV Has the Best Rear Visibility?

If it works, the technology could free drivers from the compromised sightlines that short rear windows, large rear head restraints or bulky C- and D-pillars create. It also means big Uncle Eddy could sit in back without blocking three interstate lanes.

But execution matters in a huge way.

Kia Eight-Passenger Mystery Machine: It's a Minivan!

2015KiaSedona

A week after releasing a teaser image and cryptic description of an "all-new midsize multi-purpose vehicle" with seating for eight, Kia today came clean about the mystery vehicle. It's the 2015 Kia Sedona, and it's set to make its public debut next week at the 2014 New York International Auto Show. The announcement confirmed widespread suspicion that it was a minivan, though some of us at Cars.com admittedly saw an aggressive-looking crossover when we first laid eyes on the shadow-obscured image. But of course there's no mistaking it now from the image above.

Kia to Debut New Eight-Passenger Vehicle at 2014 New York Auto Show

According to Kia, the minivan will be powered by a 3.3-liter direct-injected V-6, and offer a host of tech and safety features, including the next-gen UVO Infotaintment & Telematics system. "With several new eServices features, the 2015 Sedona is designed to be the perfect companion for any lifestyle and accommodate any adventure on the road," the Korean automaker said in a statement.

New 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger to Debut in New York

2015DodgeChargerTeaser

There was little doubt Dodge would have to update its Challenger muscle car to compete in a world with an all-new Ford Mustang. But even we were a bit surprised to hear a new version of the four-door Charger would debut alongside the updated Challenger at next week's New York International Auto Show.

Chrysler released the images above (Charger) and below (Challenger) to announce the debuts. What they show is what looks to be a completely reworked front end for the Charger and an all-new gauge cluster for the Challenger along the lines of the digitally augmented gauges in other Dodge vehicles.

2015 M4 Convertible Joins BMW Lineup

2015-bmw-m4-conv.-1

When BMW unveiled its updated M3 sedan and M4 coupe we knew it'd only be a matter of time before a droptop version joined the lineup. Today, BMW announced details of the 2015 M4 convertible, which will go on sale alongside the sedan and coupe this summer.

2015 BMW M3, M4: First Look

BMW says the M4 convertible is around 90 pounds lighter than its predecessor, the M3 convertible, thanks to heavy use of lightweight aluminum in the front fenders, hood and chassis. Lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic components also help keep the weight down.

As in the M3 sedan and M4 coupe (the M4 replaced the prior-gen M3 coupe), the convertible uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine that BMW says is good for 425 horsepower and 406 pounds-feet of torque; that's more powerful than the outgoing V-8. Two transmissions are available: a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automated manual. The M4 convertible's top speed is 155 mph, and BMW pegs its zero to 60 time at 4.4 seconds with the manual and 4.2 seconds with the automatic.

Land Rover Discovery Vision Concept Headed to the New York Auto Show

Land Rover is planning to debut a new concept with a very storied name at the New York International Auto Show, but the concept doesn't just preview one new Land Rover SUV, rather it marks a whole new sub-brand for the automaker. Land Rover says the Discovery Vision Concept "will showcase the design and technology vision for a future new family of Discovery vehicles."

More 2014 New York Auto Show News

The first-generation of the Discovery was introduced in England 25 years ago and was eventually known in the U.S. as the LR4. Based on the dark teaser video above, the Discovery Vision Concept appears to be LR4-sized and offer configurable seating for seven, hinting at that model's eventual replacement.

Check out the teaser video for more details and check back with us in mid-April for more Land Rover news from the 2014 New York Auto Show.
