What Does This Button Do?

Button1
As I sat surrounded in the ridiculously awesome opulence of the new Jaguar XJL SuperSport, I was a bit confounded by its center display screen and this little button below it.

It sat next to a button for the stereo power and hazard lights.

So, what would a button with two chairs facing each other control? Would a hologram of the music screen pop up between the driver and front passenger? Did it switch the sound settings to be more attuned for either seat?

Recall Alert: 2010 Jaguar XF and XK

2010 Jaguar XKJaguar is recalling 6,085 of its 2010 XK and 2010 XF models over potential long-term problems with the power-steering system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The power-assist steering pipes were not assembled with the correct amount of corrosion protection. Over time, corrosion may lead to pin-holing of the pipe, which could allow power-steering fluids to seep out and cause a loss of power-assisted steering. The loss of power steering may make the car more difficult to maneuver, resulting in an accident. The power-steering fluid can also ignite, causing a vehicle fire. Both vehicles were also recalled in July over potential problems with the fuel system.

Jaguar dealers will replace the power-steering fluid pipes with parts that meet corrosion specifications. The recall will begin on or before April 11. To find out more information, call Jaguar at 800-452-4827 or NHTSA’s hotline at 888-327-4236.

Jaguar Tops Service Study

Jaguar dealerWhen you’re considering a new-car purchase you’re usually not only shopping for the best car but also looking for the best car-shopping experience. If you’re looking for a level of customer service equal to Southwest Airline or U.S. Cellular — two firms widely renowned for excellent care — with your car dealership, look to luxury makers Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, Lincoln and Jaguar.

Those findings are a result of a broad-based customer feedback survey conducted by J.D. Power and Associates. The survey included nearly 800 brands from 40 different industries. The five luxury carmakers were placed in the top 40 brands, with players like Caribou Coffee, the Four Seasons and, of course, the two brands already mentioned.

According to the J.D. Power survey, the brands with the best services often communicate effectively with their customers and provide speed and convenience. Jaguar in particular was noted for satisfying customers with a great new-vehicle sales experience, which is a good thing considering that vehicles like the Jaguar XF have rather poor reliability, according to Consumer Reports. You may be using those stellar services more often than not.

Recall Alert: 2010-2011 Jaguar XJ

2011 Jaguar XJJaguar is recalling 6,475 2010-11 XJ sedans over potentially defective windshield wipers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In the affected vehicles, the windshield wipers were not properly installed or synchronized. In some vehicles, the wipers could lose synchronization and eventually clash against each other, resulting in one or more wipers detaching from the vehicle.

Jaguar will begin notifying owners Dec. 13. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and repair the securing nut to correct the torque specification if necessary.

For more info, owners can contact Jaguar at 800-452-4827 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hot line at 888-327-4236.

Jaguar C-X75 Concept at 2010 Paris Motor Show

Jaguar C-X75 Concept

  • Looks like: The Jaguar F-Type Concept and the Ferrari California
  • Defining characteristics: It’s a plug-in electric vehicle that can accelerate to 205 mph
  • Ridiculous features: Do you have eyes?
  • Chance of being mass-produced: Doubtful

If you’re waiting for Jaguar to finally show an updated XK or the rumored entry-level sedan, you’ll have to wait a bit longer, as the company decided to pull a 180 and instead show us this new electric supercar concept called the Jaguar C-X75.

The Jaguar C-X75 is a series hybrid, in the same vein as the Chevrolet Volt. But instead of having one electric motor like in the Volt, this model has four – one in each wheel – that can deliver 780 horsepower and a near-instantaneous 1,180 pounds-feet of torque. All that power allows the concept to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in a blistering 3.4 seconds.

Keep in mind that this kitty can be plugged in, giving the vehicle a 68-mile electric range – with a six-hour charge – and a total cruising range of 560 miles. Probably the oddest part of this concept is that it sports two jetlike small gas turbines to recharge the batteries. The engines were co-developed with a jet engine company and are supposed to recharge the concept’s lithium-ion batteries quickly.

Needless to say, all this cutting-edge technology makes the possibility of a production C-X75 close to impossible. Then again, stranger things have happened. Expect to see the concept’s neo-retro styling cues on future generations of Jag vehicles.

Cars.com Reviews the 2011 Jaguar XKR

2011 Jaguar XKR
The 2011 model year is the fifth for this generation of the Jaguar XKR, the convertible/coupe has aged remarkably well, according to Cars.com editor Mike Hanley,. Despite its exterior looks, there are some undesirable elements in the cabin such as a slow navigation system, which are unbefitting a car with a price tag of more than $100,000. Is the Jag’s age and imperfect interior enough to detract from its excellent powertrain and handling? Read Hanley’s full review and watch our video review to find out.

2011 Jaguar XJL Video

Jaguar has experienced a recent reawakening when it comes to modern design, first with the XK and XF and now with the totally redesigned XJ. In this video, Cars.com senior editor Joe Wiesenfelder tests the 2011 Jaguar XJL, the long-wheelbase model. Like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the XJL is more of a livery vehicle than a driver’s car; however, it toes the line between the two extremes better than the Mercedes. See how the improved XJL fares in this video.

Cars.com Video: Jaguar XKR Convertible

Now in its fifth model year, the 2011 Jaguar XKR convertible has aged remarkably well, according to Cars.com editor Mike Hanley. The model we tested had a price tag over $100,000, and in a car such as this, you’d expect everything to be top-notch, but Hanley says that’s not necessarily the case with the XKR. The navigation system is slow, the trunk is small, and not all the switches and controls are up to snuff. Still, is that enough reason not to buy this track-ready kitten? Watch the video to find out.
