Cars.com's Carbon Offset Update

Terrapasslogo

In our first carbon offset report of the new year, Cars.com’s drivers did a decent job of keeping the fill-ups under control. Our largest gas purchase was 19 gallons for the relatively fuel-efficient Ford Focus, while we only pumped a little over 11 gallons for the least efficient vehicle, the Kia Borrego. No year-to-date numbers on this post, obviously, but keep checking back to find out how much CO2 Cars.com will pay to offset. Find out what it costs to offset your own emissions by clicking here.

2009 Mazda CX-7 (review)
Total gallons: 13.99
Amount of CO2 emitted: 273.7
Cost to offset for one year: $71.40

2008 Ford Focus (review)
Total gallons: 19.11
Amount of CO2 emitted: 373.87

Cars.com's Carbon Offset Update

Terrapasslogo

As the new year kicks off, we were doing some please-let-it-be-spring cleaning and found a batch of old carbon offset reports that had yet to be tabulated. The vehicle costing Cars.com the most money this time around was the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette. Although more fuel-efficient than many of the vehicles tested (see: Hummer H2 and Toyota Land Cruiser), the 'Vette made a weekend Father's Day trip (yeah, we haven’t cleaned in awhile) that racked up the gallons. As usual, each car's emissions cost is based on the estimate that it’s driven 12,000 miles in a year. Find out how to offset your own carbon costs at TerraPass.

2008 Lexus IS-F (review)
Total gallons: 14.4
Amount of CO2 emitted: 275.85 pounds
Cost to offset for one year: $59.50

2008 Ford F-150 (review)
Total gallons: 5.0
Amount of CO2 emitted: 97.82 pounds
Cost to offset for one year: $89.25

Cars.com's Carbon Offset Update

This carbon offset report looks higher than normal because, as you'll see, we were reviewing a lot of big SUVs. A trip to Michigan in the Chevy Traverse didn't help either, as we used nearly 50 gallons of gas to get there and back. Read the full report below, and check out Terrapass to see how much you can pay to offset your vehicle's yearly carbon emissions.

2008 GMC Yukon 2WD (review)
Total gallons: 15.4
Amount of CO2 emitted: 301.29
Cost to offset for one year: $83.30

2008 Infiniti QX56 (review)
Total gallons: 8.4
Amount of CO2 emitted: 164.34
Cost to offset for one year: $95.20

In our latest update on Cars.com's carbon offset program, the winner for most emissions goes to the Infiniti EX35, which in burning nearly 30 gallons of gas chugged out almost 583 pounds of CO2 emissions. That’s probably because our editors logged a lot of miles in it. Good thing we've got all that joyriding testing covered.
