Recall Alert: 2010-2013 Suzuki Kizashi

2013SuzukiKizashiRecall

Vehicles Affected: More than 19,000 model-year 2010-13 Suzuki Kizashi sedans manufactured between October 2009 and July 2012

The Problem: Spiders may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent hose, blocking it and causing the fuel tank to have an excessive amount of negative pressure. This could cause the fuel tank to crack, resulting in a fuel leak and increasing the risk of a fire. This problem has affected at least three other automakers, including Honda, Hyundai and Mazda, in recent years, most recently resulting in an April 2014 recall of 42,000 model-year 2010-12 Mazda6 sedans.

The Fix: Suzuki began notifying owners on Aug. 12, and dealers will replace the evaporative canister vent line with a vent line that has a filter on the end. If the canister is found to be obstructed by a spider web, the fuel tank will also be replaced. The automaker will do all work for free.

What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Suzuki at 800-934-0934, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov for more info.
