Report: GM Tells Dealers to Stop Selling 1.4-Liter Chevrolet Cruzes

If you're shopping for a Chevrolet Cruze, you may have to hold on. USA Today reports that GM has ordered dealers to stop delivering 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze sedans with the turbocharged 1.4-liter engine. The automaker didn't clarify one particular reason to USA Today. The Cruze offers a 1.8-liter four-cylinder or the turbo 1.4-liter four-cylinder; the affected engine makes up about two-thirds of new 2013/2014 Cruze inventory on Cars.com.

It's worth noting that temporary stop-sale orders are fairly common, often when automakers detect a safety issue. The exact issue is unclear, but GM recalled the 1.4-liter Cruze in August 2013 because of brake issues. This move comes as the automaker faces multiple investigations over faulty ignition switches in six 2000s-era models, including the Cruze's predecessor, the Chevy Cobalt. The automaker has recalled 1.6 million cars globally, with 1.37 million in the U.S.

Vehicles added to the recall include 2008-2011 Chevrolet HHRs, along with 2008 to 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts, Pontiac Solstices, Pontiac G5s and Saturn Skys.

@Talley.. all car/truck mfg's have recalls, some learn from it, some don't. Subaru's yrs ago built rust boxes & even all thru the 2000's had major head gasket issues. But think they learned from it.

Bravo GM! This is what should happen.

When a product manufacturer finds a serious problem they should halt sales and fix the problem rather than wait until people get killed or injured or the govt forces them into a recall.

Count me in as a fan of GM. I've never had any issues with my ignition or anything else in the recalls (chevy cobalt)... in fact, it's the smoothest car I've ever been in. I love it. It's cheap to fill up (using gasbuddy), cheap to maintain/repair, only 25/month to insure (thanks 4AutoInsuranceQuote)‚Äč, and looks beautiful. I'll take it in for the re-call, but I don't think this is a big issue.

Modern cars are incredibly complex systems. As complexity rises, so does the chance that a problem will go undetected. Auto makers are constantly having to try to find the balance between their ability to manage this complexity and customer demand for new features. It's a difficult balance to strike.

That's why you're seeing just about every auto maker having these problems now. Contrary to the opinions of some, it's not malicious, or even negligent. Its a very difficult competitive environment. Put too much focus on quality and don't introduce enough new features, and consumers will buy the other guy's car that has more features. Put too much emphasis on features, and you get recalls and loss of reputation.

People gripe a lot about how much we pay executives, but, we pay them a lot to deal with very hard, sometimes no-win problems like this, under pressure, with other people's money.

"General Motors can't seem to get its name out of the "bad news" column. Two more recalls were announced late Friday evening that will see The General calling in 490,200 fullsize pickup trucks and SUVs, along with 172,000 Chevrolet Cruze models."

I would call full size pickups something other than compact cars.

Nice try. GM has now recalled almost 5 million cars this year. No other manufacturer has this incredibly poor safety record right now.

I thought, Al Gore gave you Internet for something. Go and research. So, you wake up in the morning and say, I gonna go and buy Chevy Cruze. What I read is says: Cruze was made by cooperation of Opel and Daewoo. Then I ask myself, how good are Opel and Daewoo cars? I look and find that this is bottom. So, I ask myself, can same people who produces bottom, can they make a good car? will the car improve if they call it differently? Ok, possibly they can but historically don't. Do I want to take a risk? But no, someone gets up in the morning, drives to a Chevy dealer and buys the car. Although, I have to admit. We need these dummies. Because if not for them, GM would finally disappear after 3rd bankruptcy and other few manufacturers would receive the monopoly they wished to have and they could lower their standards. So, dummies, welcome.

I have a 2002 yukon and my suv shuts off when you turn hard left dealers can't find the problem. also in the steering colum the shifter has a spring just like the recall that spring breaks in half causing the transmisson to be stuck in the gear your in....

In Iraq, the Cruze has option for built-in car bomb. Its also cheaper option because insurance will not pay for driver detonated car destruction.

GM has the third-fewest recalls per unit of ANY of the top 20 automakers. Try again.
It's Mercedes, then Mazda, then GM. The absolute-worst is Hyundai. No surprise there.
