2015 Ford Mustang First Photos and Details

Mustang1

This isn't a refresh. This is the first all-new Ford Mustang since the company reinvented it — retro style — in 2005.

2015 Ford Mustang: First Look

The 2015 is lighter, wider and features an independent rear suspension, a first for mass-market Mustangs. But it is the new styling that will have everyone talking.

Mustang2

The grille and headlights may be reminiscent of the current Mustang, but the rest of the car is radically different. The long hood droops over the grille while still having a bulge alluding to the power underneath.

The rear quarter looks more like a traditional coupe than a muscle car, but the back end is far from ordinary. There is a sculpted lip that runs below and above the taillights for an effect similar to a lip spoiler.

Under the hood are the updated versions of the base V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8 that are in the current car but a turbocharged four-cylinder will also be available.

We'll have full details on the new Mustang later today. Click on any image below for a larger version.

Editor's note: This post was updated on Dec. 5 to clarify that the 2015 Mustang's independent rear suspension is a first for mass-market versions of the car. In the early 2000s, the Mustang SVT Cobra had an independent rear suspension.

Yes, we can see that the front end looks like a Mustang, but it also looks like a Fusion, a Taurus, etc... But, not necessarily a bad thing- I personally like the Ford corporate look.

Gerard

Want. Nice job Ford!

WOW looks great. I like it!

Darn, there's the FordMyTouch in the dash (no surprise). There goes the Mustang's decent reliability ratings. Otherwise, the car looks great

Danny

I thought they were gonna add physical buttons to myford touch because of all the complaints.

Don't want to rain on the parade, but this design looks like a "fail." Mustang was all about style and proportion, and 50 years later this version doesn't look as good as the original. I predict an earlier than expected facelift. I do salute Ford for going to an independent rear suspension on this model.

A. Non E. Mouse

The front end is way too corporate, along with the current styling trend of a too bulbous nose.

JTH

The rear quarter window looks a little too Corvette-like for my taste. Otherwise, I like the rest of the look.

john

From the side, it looks almost like the Honda accord coupe. Ford can't do better but copy Honda. I'll take the scion over this piece of jk any day...

john

Fusion also copied the Honda accord sedan after the accords were selling like hot cake... nobody were saying anything when the American copied...

I think it looks sharp, but its body style looks too much like Jag XK. I feel Ford is trying to entice the European market with the looks it has given the Mustang. I think the mustang has lost some of its brutal American ruggedness for a sleeker more European body style. I think it is going to have an identity crisis...

Tyler

I'll be the first to say my opinion means nothing but, if it did I'd be sure to tell ford. That as a very long time member of the mustang community I'd agree that the car looks good from the hood back. However the front facsia of the car must be changed! We mustang guys don't care for the fusion we don't want to blend in and most of all we despise the idea that we could possibly be mistaken for a Fusion, Taurus, c max or any other indistinguishable ford car .

Slightly more slope to the fastback profile; a tad more tapered front- and rear- ends; subtly curved haunches ... looks a little less like an American muscle car and more like a European sports car. A definite plus in the opinion of this enthusiast. Kudos on the update, Ford.

Ivan

I love the new look on the
outside. But this car is made to be driven. If I want to push buttons on the steering wheel I will go for an IPhone. Take them off the steering wheel, there are enough of them between the seats.

No matter how well Gm, Ford And Chrysler try.....there will always be folks that are not satisfied. I dont know what more ford could have done to make a nice sports car!!!

I've never consider buying Mustang before, but this one looks AMAZING, CLEAN, and WELL BUILT! Quality and styling seem to have been improved extensively. I love that Ford keeps the vintage Mustang design and also injects more modern styling and technology to fit into the GLOBAL market. I live in California but I know many buyers in Asian countries will be interested. Ford, please produce the right-hand drive (Made in USA) Mustangs, and ship them to China and South East Asia.

i wish they would have done a little more to modernize the interior and make it a little more space efficient. the dash and center console look huge and obtrusive..and the center console looks massive with only the two cup holders breaking it up...everyone has smart phones these days...a couple places to put them (other than the cup holders) would have been nice.

George

Looks like a sissy muscle car wrapped in pink lace.

Belly

Really like everything about this car except the headlights. The back end is the best I've seen on a Mustang. Those headlight though... I can't stand the furrowed brow look. That looks like something that could be a minor change for the next model. Hopefully.

G

Still looks like an old Mustang.....BORING (YAWN).

Steve

WOW, a two door Fusion...??? Seriously, the rear end looks very nice, the center console looks over complicated like usual for Fords, and the front looks like I've seen it on several other models. Overall...okay.

Scott

I love this car! I really think that it has a perfect combination of modern coupe styling with a nod to the muscle car attitude that we all love. I want one!

Gazz

where is the muscle ! It now looks like an ordinary coupe with too much corperate looks for my liking and there's a lot of jag there ! Still a great car but lacks the muscle as it once did , nothing special . Best view is the back end !
