2014 Chevrolet Impala Earns NHTSA Five-Star Rating

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala has earned the highest safety rating of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, GM announced today. The full-size sedan received five stars in frontal and side crash tests and four in rollover tests, for an overall score of five stars.

The redesigned Impala offers a host of crash-avoidance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, pre-crash braking, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a backup camera and rear park assist. Occupant protection features include front- and side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, and side curtain airbags that cover both rows.

While the five-star rating is good news for GM, the road has not been entirely smooth for the new Impala in terms of safety. Just last month, the 2014 Impala, along with the Cadillac XTS and ATS, was included in a recall of 1,627 sedans due to a brake light problem; the malfunction could confuse other drivers and increase the risk of a crash.
