GM today announced pricing for Chevrolet's first rear-wheel-drive performance sedan in 17 years. The 2014 Chevrolet SS will start at $44,470, including a $995 destination charge, when it hits dealerships at the end of this year. The SS' 6.2-liter V-8 makes 415 horsepower and 415 pounds-feet of torque; GM says it's good for a zero-to-60 time of 5.0 seconds.

The SS will offer only two options — a power sunroof ($900) and full-size spare tire ($500) — but comes with a host of standard equipment, including:

  • Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlamps with LED running lights
  • Automatic Parking Assist, a backup camera and rear park assist
  • Blind spot and lane departure warning systems
  • Color head-up display
  • Alloy pedal covers
  • Heated and ventilated front seats with memory and dual-zone climate control
  • Keyless entry and push-button start
  • Chevrolet MyLink with a color touch-screen and GPS navigation
  • Bose audio system with a 12-month satellite radio trial

The SS will be available in five exterior colors — Mystic Green, Silver Ice Metallic, Red Hot 2, Phantom Black Metallic and Heron White — while interiors will be black and include sport front bucket seats.

The lack of color selections is disappointing.

For comparison, the 3 most recent high performance Holdens to come to the US:

2006 Pontiac GTO, 400hp 6.0 - $31,990 MSRP
2009 Pontiac G8 GXP, 415hp 6.2 - $38,360
2014 Chevy SS, 415hp 6.2 - $44,470

Even taken into consideration normal increases and added tech, it seems a little high compared to the G8 GXP. But, man the GTO was a steal when it was new! Especially considering that dealers couldn't seem to sell them consistently.

and no manual?!?!? Value just dropped about 4 grand in my opinion. lol.

Steve

If you like expensive gourmet vanilla pudding with alot of kick, this is your car.

Rich

I would rather fork over the extra 10k for a ZL1 Camaro.

carma

Great value. Will kick some 5 series tail for less than the cost of a 4 cylinder 3 series.

This will be a complete failure. Who in their right mind would pay $45k for a Chevy sedan that has more than a passing resemblance to a Subaru? Honestly?

It's performance is irrelevant IMO. The GTO and G8 did nothing to save Pontiac and were not sought after. This is more of the same and proof that GM hasn't learned from it's mistakes.

Shorebreak

Comparable pricing with Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee at $44,245.

Al

$45K for a Holden Commodore? Are you KIDDING?
GM are overpricing their cars, and the technology and quality just isn't there.

Al D.

I think everyone needs to keep in mind that this is a limited supply niche vehicle. And to a few comments, the technology IS there in this car. We will obviously have to see about the reliability, quality, etc, once it is made available. The car has just about every technological option available in cars even a little more expensive than this is. The asking price isn't astronomical, it's a niche price. People are going to pay it, but it won't sell AS well because it lacks a manual tranny.

I personally, decided that I would get a fully loaded ATS 2.0T Premium with a manual transmission instead of waiting to see how this car fleshed out, because the rear seat room wasn't as important, and I wanted a manual. Different strokes for different folks.

ZZ

lol, rich people cars

KL

$44,470 for a Chevy sedan. I almost broke a rib from laughing so hard.

Joe

I agree KL - paying anything over about $10k for an American car is laughable. I paid less for a brand new Volvo S60 that would smoke this car and keep on going long after everything on this Chevy had to be replaced twice.

steve v.

lots of 04 to 06 gto recovered thefts out there missing engine and trans guessing this ss will be about the same but at least they wont want your auto trans

you guy keep buying your riceburners and gay volvos, i only buy american. This chevy is perfect for me. ill be doing burn outs and donuts all day. And you guys can keep you manual tranny, ill be smoking you on the highways with thoughs paddle shifters.
