Top 10 Cars for the 2012 Apocalypse

Whether the much-hyped date of Dec. 21, 2012, in any way resembles the end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it movie "2012" remains to be seen — but only 10 days now remain to party like it's 1999. A year ago, in preparation for what, if any, doomsday scenario accompanies the Mayan calendar's ominous end, we provided a list of our favorite vehicles to carry us into oblivion. Comprising disparate selections from the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle to the 2012 Ram 3500 Longhorn, there's something for every dystopian driver. So take heed because, hey, maybe you'll end up in Mad Max's super-cool 1973 Ford Falcon — but that could mean carpooling with Mel Gibson.

Great article. For anyone interested in more Mayan Doomsday info, here are some tips on how to throw an awesome Apocalypse Party!

A pretty poor list. Lexus? Get real.

I think a Subaru Outback or Toyota RAV4 would be far better vehicles for the given task.

The Suburban would be the only real pick from that sad array.

This list is terrible, and reeks of advertising. They're all gas guzzlers, and only a few have 4WD. I'd pick the Subaru Outback or perhaps the Jeep Patriot. Both are good on gas, 4wd or AWD, and have enough cargo area to haul needed supplies.

I agree!! what happend with the H1 Hummer, my choise! with diesel and a body to run anything over or through it!!!
