2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2013 Outlander Sport Limited Edition to Bow at L.A. Auto Show
A pair of Mitsubishi crossovers are set to make their North American debuts later this month at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show: the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander and the 2013 Outlander Sport Limited Edition.
Full specs haven't been released, but Mitsubishi says the third generation of the midsize Outlander boasts a new design that emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency and a new, more fuel-efficient engine.
The revised Outlander loses more than an inch of length for 2014. Changes to its exterior styling include a restyled grille, a raised belt line, a more contoured body and wraparound headlamps. It follows the look of the Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV II first shown at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
The interior will feature standard seven-passenger seating and an updated design. The 2014 Outlander will also get a trio of new safety systems: forward-collision mitigation, lane-departure warning and adaptive cruise control.
Also at the 2012 L.A. Auto Show, the arrival of the 2013 Outlander Sport Limited Edition is timed to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Mitsubishi's arrival in North America. The compact crossover was updated for model-year 2013. Aesthetic features include blackout side mirrors, center bumper, wheel arch trim and roof rails, along with dark-chrome alloy wheels and Limited Edition badging.
Other Limited Edition features on Mitsubishi's smallest crossover include a six-way adjustable power driver's seat, aluminum pedals, a leather parking-brake lever and available two-tone Dove Grey and black leather seating surfaces.
In other Outlander news, the crossover's plug-in hybrid is expected to arrive for sale in the United States next year.
