2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek Video
Subaru's new XV Crosstrek shares its roots with the Impreza hatchback and takes bits from its bigger sibling, the Outback. Offering generous cabin space for passengers, a carlike driving experience and good gas mileage, the XV Crosstrek is targeted at a new group of buyers. But does this vehicle's rugged, off-road appearance make up for the noticeable lack of cargo space? Cars.com reviewer Mike Hanley takes a closer look.

Hi, I'd love to hear more about handling, feel off road (or soft road), and long distant comfort. Also, at the end you compare it to the CR-V, which is an odd comparison. For people who want that kind of vehicle, Subaru is happy to oblige with the Forester or even the Outback. This is more of a kin to the Kia Sportage, the Suzuki Sx4. Those are much more likely to be x-shopped with the impreza/XV.
I understand the complexities of bringing the diesel powertrain to the states..but no 6-speed either? As an AWD fan who is in the market for the perfect Subaru I hate to say it, BUT..if I can't have the Subaru that I want, then I won't get a Subaru. Very frustrating.
I understand Matt's frustration. I'd buy a 6 speed diesel version of the Crosstrek -- trade in my 2008 Impreza. Crosstrek with a CVT? No thank you. I'll stay with my 2008 Impreza 5 speed.
