Recall Alert: 2013 Volvo S80 and XC70

2013-volvo-s80
Volvo is recalling 300 model-year 2013 versions of the S80 sedan and XC70 wagon because of problems with the tire pressure monitoring system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A software error may prevent the tire pressure warning system from alerting the driver when a tire is low on air. Underinflated tires could result in a blowout and possible crash.

Volvo has not yet provided an owner notification schedule, but dealers will replace the affected parts for free. Owners can call Volvo at -800-458-1552 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 for more info.

We own a 2013 xc 70. Last evening we were driving to Los Angeles from Prescott, AZ. Three quarters of the way through our trip the low pressure tire notice came on and within a minute we noticed we had a flat tire. The tire was not just flat but shredded to pieces. We were on the 10 freeway , going 75 and in the fast lane. Luckily we were able to pull over safely. The low pressure tire signal has occurred on two separate occasions. Both occurrences were reported to the Volvo service department's who checked the pressure and advised that this was not as issue. Now here it is on Sunday and we are unable to get service on our Volvo until Monday.
