Where is Gas the Cheapest?
Summer driving season is here and gas prices are falling. That's right; they're actually decreasing during one of the biggest travel times of the year. Motorists in some states are even seeing prices below $3 a gallon.
MSNBC is reporting that gas prices have dropped an average of 7.1 % across the country during the last month. The decline has been seen in all but two states. Where is it the cheapest? Five out of the 10 states listed below are located on the Gulf Coast, where a large amount of crude oil is processed. Other states credit low fuel taxes for their cheap gas.

Now it's down as low as $2.66 in Greenville SC!
Odd thing is that Greenville is ten cents less than the cheapest you'll find in Anderson or Spartanburg, even though the pipeline terminals are near Anderson and Spartanburg. And even then it's only one or two stations that cheap in those two cities. I don't ever remember the difference being so much.
In St. Louis, $2.89 is the lowest I've seen so far. We do have refineries from a few companies just East in Illinois, but Illinois didn't make the list probably because their gas tax is obnoxiously high.
The Mobil station down the street from me is still at $4.29 for regular.
