2014 Chevrolet SS Performance Sedan Made Official
Enthusiasts still in shock over the departure of the Pontiac G8 have a new savior. Chevrolet made it official today: The automaker will launch a new performance sedan called the 2014 Chevrolet SS in early 2013.
Like the G8, the SS borrows its shape and mechanicals from a Holden Commodore. Unlike the G8, however, the SS will be available only with a V-8 engine. The SS will be based off the upcoming VF Commodore, which is a refreshed version of the Commodore on which the G8 was based. Don't expect the dead Pontiac and the new Chevrolet to look the same.
The model marks Chevrolet's first rear-wheel-drive sedan in over 17 years, according to the automaker. It will arrive in limited production early next year, and it will replace the Impala racecar at NASCAR's Sprint Series in 2013, too, GM says.

Great news to learn that Chevy will again offer a RWD sedan.
Its a joke, because of higher gas prices, GM closed the entire SS lineup. Now what makes them think that gas prices will be cheaper in 2014.
Today's great news is that the Ford C-Max Hybrid is priced @ 26K which more competition in the Hybrid Wagon segment. I hope GM will launch 1 such vehicle instead of selling SS and then offering discount and finally closing it.
Not sure what you're talking about.
GM still has the Camaro SS and an even higher performance ZL1. The ZL1 has no discounts and you're hard pressed to get a huge deal on an SS.
Just called the "SS" huh. Well thats a first. I wish Chevy would make a small performance car like the Cobalt SS. I bet the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ will be huge. Then what will Chevy have to compete. A full sized car?
Actually, I am very interested in this new car. I wasnt in the market when the G8 was available. Now, this car has great promise for me.
Much will depend on the sheet metal, features and technology. But the Ls3 v8 is what I am looking for.
Today, to get a larger RWD drive you have to look at some expensive imports or a Cadillac.
None of which interest me.
Great decision! good choice bringing back such a well loved design. Its probably going to be like an impala with sport and better styling. and lets hope it doesnt lift a steering wheel from mercedes this time. we got our next g8, now wheres our next corvette?
@ Tsand
The Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Charger are both large sedans with RWD and are not expensive imports even though the parent company is now Fiat.
Apparently there are some already running around. One passed me today on I-40 between Nashville and Knoxville. As it was approaching I thought it was a G8 with some tweeks. When it passed it had the Chevy emblem on the back and SS on the trunk. Very NICE!!
