Recall Alert: 2004-2005 Jeep Liberty

Chrysler Group is recalling 209,724 model-year 2004 and 2005 versions of the Jeep Liberty SUV due to problems with the rear suspension control arm, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Excessive corrosion could cause the lower control arm to fracture in certain vehicles, leading to a possible loss of vehicle control.

The affected vehicles were manufactured from July 3, 2003, through July 14, 2005, and were originally sold or currently registered in the Rust Belt states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

According to NHTSA, Chrysler received 11 complaints from owners alleging control arm corrosion and failure. Three of the complaints also alleged a loss of vehicle control.

Jeep will notify owners starting in late April, and dealers will replace the affected parts free of charge. Owners can call Chrysler at 800-853-1403 or NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 for more info.

These regional recalls are lame, cheap cop-outs. What if you live in a southern state and bought a used Liberty that was driven in a rust belt state for the past several years?

It's sad to hear this news that Road salt corrosion leads to Jeep Liberty recall. This jeeps are just lovely and would've looked good on the road.

My wife's Jeep Liberty has this problem right now and is almost rusted through. I called the local dealer and they said they have no info. I called Jeep and they said a recall might come out at the end of next month if this is one of the affected vehicles. The bar is just about gone but they won't do anything about it now. They refuse to do anything about it until the recall notification comes out. I hope I don't loose control of this vehicle before then. They know there's a problem but are in no hurry to fix it.

I forgot to mention that when I called Chrysler/Jeep about the problem, the rep said this information wasn't supposed to be out there already but it leaked out. I was told I could have it fixed now and if/when the recall comes out they would look at reimbursing me. It's their problem and I'm the one that needs to jump through hoops.

I recieved the recall in the mail today,If you already had these replaced you can get reemburised from Chrysler by sending in the reciept to them.

One of my family members owned a 2005 liberty that caught fire when being started.i heard about it on the radio. But could not find anything about it on line. Whats up with that?

i have a 2005 jeep liberty renegade, and have never received anything on any kind of recalls, i just happen to stumble upon this and am wondering how i can get letters for recalls! a woman i work with has a 04 liberty and she received a letter for a recall for her jeep. how do i get letters as well??

I have an on going problem with my tail lights on my 2005 Jeep Liberty. When I talk to any Mech. they just say yup it's a jeep problem, they all seem to have. I bought this new & it seems like every 3 to 6 months I have to replace either bulbs &/or sockets.

What is the solution to the hideous steel wheels that grace my 2005 Jeep Liberty Sport?
they each hold a pint of water that sloshes around the wheel while driving. In snow country, this water freezes and the wheels are severely out of alignment if one wants to drive. This is a severe safety hazard.
