Name the Next Jeep Grand Cherokee
Jeep unveiled a new Grand Cherokee concept at the Houston Auto Show, but it doesn't have a name yet. The automaker also launched the "Name My Ride" contest to name the production-intent vehicle. Aside from naming (and bragging) rights, the winner will also take home a new 2012 Grand Cherokee.
Distinguishing it from the regular Grand Cherokee, the concept rides on black-gloss 20-inch aluminum wheels, has platinum-chrome front-end trim with a mesh grille, black headlamp bezels and a black liftgate light bar. In other words, Chrysler is going for a more menacing look with this version of Grand Cherokee.
Got an idea? Visit www.jeep.com/namemyride to submit a name. The automaker will narrow the entries down to three and allow consumers to vote for their favorite. The winner will be announced in May.
Grand Cherokee is on a roll in the sales department. In the U.S., Jeep sold 127,744 units in 2011, up 51% compared with sales in 2010. Jeep Brand President and CEO Mike Manley expects this new Grand Cherokee trim to boost the model's popularity. "Jeep enthusiasts have always appreciated limited-edition models and the ability to customize their vehicles," he said in a press release.
If public feedback is positive, the unnamed Grand Cherokee model could hit dealerships as early as this spring.

Looks like a HONDA SUV Odyssey from the back.
Nice to see their design has moved away from the "square" look.
We bought a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit 4X4 V6 a couple of months ago and it has proven to be just as good as our 2008 Toyota Highlander Limited 4X4 V6.
The SRT8 version of this JGC is already menacing enough and highly capable.
The 5.7L version is also available at different trim levels and is also quite menacing and capable.
But our JGC with the new Pentastar V6 in Overland Summit trim spells refinement.
Adding this new trim may help increase sales for Jeep but cannot offer anything that is not already available, since any JGC can already be had in black on black trim.
