Cars.com Announces Best of 2012 Award Nominees

Bestof2012

Last year, the 2011 Kia Optima won Cars.com's Best of 2011 award for its outstanding combination of performance, practicality, style and value. This year, six new nominees will fight it out for our ultimate prize that will be revealed during the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Our highest honor will go to one of the following vehicles:

Platinumawards
  • Audi A7
  • Hyundai Accent
  • Hyundai Veloster
  • Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
  • Subaru Impreza
  • Volkswagen Passat

If you don't see a car above that is new or redesigned for 2012, make your voice heard in the comments. You can also try and predict which one will take home the trophy, which is being designed by a contestant from Bravo TV's "Work of Art" reality show.

George

Well, it will have to be the A7 or the Evoque, because two of the other are crap (Impreza & Passat), and the two are okay (Veloster & Accent)

I own a 2002 Subru Impreza and I have never owned a car with more problems. There have been eight (8) recalls for things as serious as leaking fuel lines (repeatedly -- don't know if they have it right now). I am not a happy owner and am surprised that you rated it so highly this year.

JM

its gotta be either the A7 or the Passat. the rest are just midpack in their segments, to be honest.

dave t.,

i'd like to see the sonic on the list, especially if you're considering the two hyundais.

Wow.

What?? No Honda???

Hahahahahaha.

Ste (The Original S.G.)

As much as I LOVE the A7, I think the Passat, especially TDi offers the best of everything in all four catagories

DN

Not an American can in the bunch...how sad...

The Franchise

Not impressed with any of these cars. Of the six, I'd have to choose the Accent as the best, but I'm mystified by the inclusion of the other Hyundai--the Veloster is nice-looking, but impractical, uncomfortable and underpowered.

I would have to say the Range Rover Evoque is by far the most elegant, completely new design of the bunch.
The best 4x4xfar!

Chris

Only one of these vehicles is assembled in the USA - the Passat.
One one of these vehicles comes with a 700-mile highway range - The Passat.
Only one of these vehicles has been picked as MOTOR TREND's 2012 car of the year - the Passat.

Really, if nothing else I think in a time of economic recovery if you're not picking the Made in the USA vehicle you're not picking correctly.

The Passat is the clear winner.

Paul

I quite liked the Saab 9-4X.

Vivian

Just bought a 2011 Cruze that we love... Shame there aren't any American cars getting any love. Of the list, agree with the Passat.

Bob

A couple of glaring omission from your list:

Ford Focus
Hyundai Elantra

Both are superior to the Accent.

Mike

I don't see the Lumina anywhere on the list....

The new 2012 Jeep Wrangler has won several industry awards after it's powertrain redesign. The most recent is "four wheeler of the year" by Four Wheeler Magazine.

No SkyActiv Mazda 3? :(

Ray Schwartz

I HAVE DRIVEN MORE THAN ONE MILLION MILES AND I NOW OWN THE PERFECT CAR FOR ME, 2009 CADILLAC CTS. IT HAS EVERYTHING. I WOULD NOT CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT IT, THE PERFECT COMBINATION OF POWER, SAFETY, DESIGN, FEATURES AND VALUE. BOO ON YOU FOR NOT INCLUDING IT !!!!!
