Reader Review of the Week: 2011 Hyundai Equus

A reader from Houston chose a pretty blunt username to express his feelings about his recently purchased 2011 Hyundai Equus: “Awesome car, but Hyundai needs to work on service.”
After trading in his BMW 7 Series, the reader found the Equus to be a great value but wished Hyundai could step up the dealer experience to feel more luxurious and less bargain bin. Continue reading below to find out more. If you want to share thoughts about your own car, you can write your own review here.
“Now I understand why people were saying that Hyundai should have created a new brand like Toyota did with Lexus. When I go to the Hyundai dealer, I get treated like an economy-car customer. There are some minor issues that make this car not world class. The iPod interface and voice commands are somewhat inconvenient. They made the car so quiet inside, but then you hear some of the interior parts rattling, and the dealer tells you the car is functioning as intended.
“Bottom line: If you want to save money and don't mind a few inconveniences, this car is for you. If you are expecting world-class materials and service, the saying goes, ‘You get what you pay for.’”

I thought they made the service in a way that you never have to step inside a hyundai dealership to get the car serviced. Is that not the case?
The dealer saying it's functioning as intended sucks, but honestly, I have the same issues with my infiniti.
Why do people still whine after saving $30K compared to buying a 7 series?
Equii,
Because they did still pay 55k on a car. If I pay $55k on a car, it better make me the happiest man on earth.
This man got a 100,000 plus car for only 58,000; you buy this to save money not create a BMW, Lexus and Mercedes Benz experience. Hyundai has always given people more than they paid for.
Actually he got a 58,000 car for 58,000.
That took some balls going from a BMW to a Hyundai. I understand how luxurious the Equus is, but damn...$55k for a Hyundai seems like a lot.
an unrational person spends 58,000 on a hyundai car. For that price give me a corvette zo6, a ford raptor or a pretty land rover. Your crazy for trading a nice bmw for a crappy hyundai, their reliability may improve but their image spewls cheap car for the cheap buyer.
Allistar
Cheap car for a cheap buyer huh? I guess you will need a little extra money to pay for all the repairs of the German brand. I would rather be labeled as cheap as opposed to being an idiot. Lay off! Equus is a fantastic deal for those who want a beautiful, reliable car.
Equii,
"Why do people still whine after saving $30K compared to buying a 7 series?"
BMW 7 series starts at $71,000. And Hyundai Equus starts at $58,000. Therefore, the reviewer on this article is likely to have not saved $30K.
Fc,
"This man got a 100,000 plus car for only 58,000..."
I have no idea why people consider the Hyundai Equus to be a six digit plus car when BMW 7 series starts at $71K, Mercedes Benz S class at $91K, and Lexus LS at $67K. Do you possibly think Hyundai Equus exceeds those luxury cars from such Japanese and German brands?
Some people have a misunderstanding that Hyundai always gives you more bang for the money, but compare the Hyundai cars' prices to the same class competitions, and you would see it's no substantial discount.
Cef,
How convenient of you to compare the cost of a six cylinder 7 series to the V8 Equus. So let me be clearer so your slow mind can comprehend: A V8 BMW 7 series with a similar (but not as extensive) equipment level as the Equus (standard with V8) costs $90,355. Ask your mommy to subtract $58,000 from that amount and tell you what the difference is. Stop twisting the truth.
Some people have a misunderstanding that Hyundai always gives you more bang for the money, but compare the Hyundai cars' prices to the same class competitions, and you would see it's no substantial discount. True, and Hyundai has a horrible reputation and resale value.
The same people that shop at Dollar General buy Hyundais.
Agreed. Hyundai's are good everyday cars, but having one that is suppose to be a luxury car is like wearing a fake Rolex.
I work at Hyundai. There is a reason we are taking over the market. More than toyota and honda. Were beating out Lexus we have guys that trade there over priced camry's in for a reliable dependable vehicle. Our car's will last just as long as any other. That's why we give the best warranty in America. B.c we know it wont cost us anything.
