Chrysler SRT8 Models Get Even More Power for 2012
During the past year’s auto show circuit, Chrysler debuted all three of its ultra-high-performance models for its three marquee brands: the Chrysler 300 SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8 and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.
At the shows, the company quoted horsepower and torque ratings for the lineup – powered by a new 6.4-liter V-8 engine – as 465 horsepower and 465 pounds-feet of torque. But as car companies with muscle cars are wont to do, they’ve updated those figures before the group goes on sale this fall.
The 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8, Dodge Challenger 392 and Dodge Charger SRT8 are all now rated at 470 hp and 470 pounds-feet of torque. The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is rated at 470 hp and 465 pounds-feet of torque.
You can read more about the models from our auto show coverage below, and we’ll have first-drive impressions closer to the cars’ on-sale date.

Oh goody, Chrysler/Dodge is producing more powerful cars. Exactly who is going to buy such crap when gas approaches $5 a gallon. I suggest they build better cars and ones that are fuel efficient.
For the power they put out they're actually pretty fuel efficient. Gas hasn't topped $4 nationally since 2008. Although it got close earlier this year. Premium, which these cars will require, is $3.91 nationally as of today according to AAA. Folks who buy these cars are willing to pay for the gas/privilege it seems.
Hey, kj, if you've looked at new car sales figures, you'd see just how many people are buying "such crap"... sales of new performance vehicles [dodge, chevy and ford] are outpacing economy cars and hybrids. So dont slight dodge for offering cars that are in demand.
When does the ZF 8 speed automatic arrive?
George,
The new 8 speeds come out this fall for the V-6. Not sure on the rest.
Hey Dave, I think I might of found a typo in your post, if not then I'm just blind or something lol. but anyways its...
"But as car companies with muscle cars are wont to do, they’ve updated..." Its the "...are wont to do..."
