Reader Review of the Week: 2011 Jaguar XJL
DJH, from Springfield, Ill., is certainly a fan of his new 2011 Jaguar XJL . In fact, no German carmaker even comes close to what you get for the price of the Jag, says DJH. The XJL is a long-wheelbase variant of the XJ sedan; this reader thinks the added space offers great rear legroom. Cars.com senior editor David Thomas contemplated working from a recent loaner's rear seats, too.

"Drive this and you will give up on the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes S-Class or E-Class, and Audi A8, not to mention the dowdy Lexus. I did, in fact, test-drive the above. Aside from the fact that the styling of those cars comes nowhere close to the stunning look of this Jaguar. Not only that, it costs many thousands less and performs better.
"I have the XJL. Right off the bat, none of the above cars has anything close to the interior rear seat legroom of this Jag, nor do any come standard with the yards of gorgeous leather (including, yes, even the headliner) in the Jag. The heated and cooled seats adjust infinitely (even the side bolsters) and come with a massaging feature.
"Behind the wheel, this thing is is as lithe as a sports car. It weighs 500 pounds less than the lightest competitor, and it shows when you drive and run in the curves. Put it in dynamic mode and it will knock your socks off - even the naturally aspirated engine goes to 60 in 5.5 seconds. The supercharged one must snap your neck off! "Plenty of English style that is far beyond the German austerity, but it is subdued and refined by the techno wizardry - a virtual dash, for example. The 1,200-watt Bowers & Wilkins stereo is the finest I've ever heard in any car. Rated at 16/23 mpg city/highway, I have averaged 28.7 highway and 22 in town. I even double-checked. Other folks report similar mileage. "Jaguar has defeated the competition with this. The fit and finish is perfect and no problems at all to date. The shopping, sales and delivery at the dealer were hands down the easiest deal I ever closed."

Yes, I agree the XJL somewhat defeated the competition. And I am considering one. However, with a single slot CD/DVD player, where is the luxury if you want to hit the road in style on a long trip and only find yourself having to manually change CDs frequently? I think Jaguar should complete this fine redefinition of luxury it has initiated. It will add no excess weight or cost to the car.
I have one and just took a fun 2000 mile trip with it. They come witha hard drive so you can upload multiple cd's onto it . The jag also can wirelessly play music from your iPhone and also has an iPod docking port in between the front seats. . The stereo rocks.
