Top 10 Best-Selling Cars of 2010

Trucks
2010 was a year of rebirth in the auto industry. Not because GM and Chrysler clawed their way back to life, but because people were buying more cars of every kind.

The top 10 from 2009 was similar to 2010’s top 10, but the trend we saw throughout this past year was the return of the truck. SUVs also sold well, but the Chevy Silverado did well enough to retake its No. 2 spot from the Toyota Camry.

Unsurprisingly, the Toyota Corolla and Camry were the only two cars on the list to see sales decline in what was an otherwise booming 2010. The full list is below.

Nice to see the Altima and Fusion on the list.

Didn't the Sonata hit 200K?

J

How come the Ram is so far away from its main competitors?
Chevy almost sold twice as much as the Ram. What is wrong with the picture?

Pete

It's funny that Honda has such a small fleet of vehicles, yet the brand occupies three of the 10 top selling vehicles. Also, as many of the people who read your blog have commented in the past, is it necessary to include sales of the Crosstour with the Accord sales numbers?

Derrick G

Sonata hit 200K for all of N. America. In the US, it hit a tad above 196K.

As for the Crosstour, Honda includes it and since Toyota includes Matrix sales in with Corolla, but doesn't break them out like Honda does Crosstour sales, they go with what Honda reports. Hyundai also doesn't break out Elantra Touring sales from other Elantras even though it's a very different car. Elantra has made the monthly list. It just wouldn't be fair to punish Honda for doing the right thing.

Also, it's not at all funny that Honda has such a small fleet and has so many top sellers. It's been around a long time with many loyal customers and having a relatively limited selection for those people is part of what helps Honda get cars on the top sellers list. If there were 20 choices, it'd be much less likely any one would make it.

It also helps make Honda a more profitable company because there are fewer costs for developing those fewer platforms.

I like the Ram a lot. It's aggressive looking, comfortable and capable for most needs. The reason for it's lower sales figures might have something to do with its comfy suspension. You see, unlike the other trucks, it's just not made for real work. This is a full size, body on frame truck marketed to the weekend warrior crowd.

This list is a bunch of crap! The Equinox easily outsells the CRV as let's not forget GM can't build them fast enough.

J

Sheth,

Really? Please...

The Toyota Camry is still the best selling car in USA, beside the big campaing against Toyota to help domestic brands.

Richard

Motor Trend magazine named the Camry the best mid-size sedan for 2010, outdueling the the Accord, Altima, Legacy and Ford Fusion, its own Car of the Year (if you are asking,'how can this be?', only redesigned cars are eligible for Car of the Year)

Who cares if Toyota Camry is the best selling car, I still would not purchase it. Yes it has the reliability factor and is a good overall car, but the interior is cheap and the plastic is cheap. It just does not fit me. Different people need their cars for different things, It is not saying that one car is better than another. Its the consumers choice.

Despite over $4/gallon in gas, it surprises me that the top two vehicles sold in America in 2010 were pick-up trucks! I wonder at what price point will gas have to be to deter people from buying them.

Hi, really a nice discussion is done by you here.I've gone through your blog and found it very informative for me also.

Automobilelisting.co.uk : Some of them operate with a specialized group of clients based on their profession or some other aspect. If you can find someone like this, then that person will be able to tell you the advantages and disadvantages of different policies.

Automobilezone.co.uk : The first and the foremost reason is that these drivers will be inexperienced and they will be dissatisfied to reap the advantages of car insurance which are available at low cost.

Car Repairing Tips Blog : Knowing the policy well before choosing yours is surely beneficial. Let us start with the cheapest policy that almost everyone does give a thought on, which is the third part insurance.

Onlinecaraccessories.co.uk : The penalties that follows if you get caught driving without an insurance or if you happen to be in accident are very high. You will have to pay a fine and you can also be put in jail. The law of this country requires the minimum level of insurance.

Thanks for the post, Who cares if Toyota Corolla is the best selling car, I still would not purchase it. Yes it has the reliability factor and is a good overall car, but the interior is cheap and the plastic is cheap. It just does not fit me.
