Recall Alert: 2011 Dodge Ram 1500

2011 Dodge Ram 1500Chrysler Group is recalling more than 56,000 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks over an issue with the rear axle bearing.

On some models built between September 2009 and December 2010, not enough lubricant was placed in the rear axle bearing. As a result, the bearing could seize, increasing the risk of an accident.

The bearing failure typically occurred within the first 500 miles, preceded by a groan or grinding noise, according to some reports.

Chrysler will notify affected owners in February. Dealerships will add 20 ounces of fluid to the rear axle bearing.

For more info, owners can contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403 or NHTSA’s hot line at 888-327-4236.

Troy S.

Why are they going to wait until February to notify owners?

M. Miller

They were building 2011's in September of 2009???

Do not weary... if your's is one of the recalled one, it will let go before 2000 Km...

mine went a week ago... @ 1100 Km. Need a complete rear end... by waiting, it will cost Dodge a lot more...

4 at our dealership are sitting in the yard waiting for parts back order...

You may be better to have a rear end replaced instead of getting lubricant added to one that overheated and is on the edge of going...

Troy S.

If you can't Dodge it, Ram it. LOL...

Dodge is slow to work this problem.I checked my rear axle today on my 2010 Ram 1500 and it was low,I had to add 12 oz's to bring the oil level up. have not noticed any noises lucky for me..

Robert M

My understanding of this from other forums is that they put the fill plug too low and are overfilling through the vent to top off. If true this could be a future problem when a lube shop checks the oil and returns it to the too low level.

My 20011 ram had problems from beginning

BOUGHT NEW 2010 DODGE RAM 1500 TRX 4X4 HAD NOTICED VIBRATION OMING FROM REAR END AREA SINCE NEW AND GOT LOUDER AND VIBRATED MORE WITH WINDOWS IN DOWN POSITION ..HAD IT TO DEALER OVER A DOZEN TIMES THEY SAID THEY REPLACED BACK SLIDING GLAss ..put lips in side rear door glass ..changed and retightened some bushings and said they replaced some bearing in the rear end ..dont know wih one as service writer kept telling me a different story every time i talked to him i had the rear end and underside of truck rustproofed and rear end painted in rust proof blak paint ...when i looked under truck not one bolt had been touched could tell if the rear end cover had been off if the paint on the bolts where marred but nothing ...they didnt do nothing to this truck still vibrating and on more then one ocasion they called and told me they were doing whatever work they had going on with my truck i drove by the dealership it was setting in the parking lot as i talked with them on my cell phone customer care no help either after several calls with them they told me the case is closed...after owning 4 dodge trucks in the last 12 years this is the last one i will ever own

They have to widen the recall years! I have a 2009 1500 and 2 weeks ago the rear end lockedup on me! wasnt fun!! also broke the tranfercase in a bunch of places and the driveshaft fell off! o ya it also lit on fire! talk about scary!
its been in the shop for almost 2 weeks! still waiting on parts!

I took my vehicle in a couple months ago for this repair. Sat at the dealership for 2 1/2 hours before they told me they didn't have any of the parts. According to the dealership, Nyle Maxwell in Austin, Tx "Crystler will only allow them one set of parts every 3 weeks". The dealership said it is on a first come first serve basis, so odds of getting this taken care of are slim.

can i just take it to a shop and have a new aftermarket rear end cap placed and filled

Not only the rear end recall, there are 2 more. The electric door locks and power steering line. My a/c does not work at an idol unless i turn of fan then turn it back on. Sorry I bought a Dodge now

I agree with Larry. My truck was recalled, 2011 1500. I am afraid that when the 36,000 mile warranty runs out of things are really going to get ugly. I am thinking about selling the truck, and ride the bus. Also service is really bad gas is to expensive.

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 that I'm sure will be part of the recall. My question is, can this issue have an effect on the rear tires? I have about 22500 miles on my truck & the rear tires need replacing already.

I have a Dodge Ram 1500 - 2011. I have 13000 miles on it and both back tires need replaced. Dealership said warranty was at 12000 miles. The tire on the back drivers side looks "kicked out" at the bottom. They said my truck was not on the recall list of problems.... and I'm waiting to hear what they blame it on. What could it be?

WANT MY CHEVY BACK!! Got my 2011 Dodge Ram 2 W/D and real excited. Alignment was so bad, beat out tires on first trip. Replaced tires at about 10,000 miles as couldn't stand the noise. Nope, Dealer admitted it was the alignment bud didn't help with cost. Then I found out on internet about the rear axle pinion and what the noise from the rear end of my truck is coming from. Dealer claims nothing is wrong but called Chrysler Corp. and was advised that my truck has this this problem and could cause a crash.. Advised they would notify me as soon as they had parts to repair truck.. As of this date I have not even been notified by Chrysler of this recall.. And to cap it all I can't get into my truck half the time and can't get them to do anything about it. Mash the entry button and the alarm may go off, window go down or what ever as it has a mind of it's own.. Anyway with service like this Chrysler and Dodge will not have to worry about me again.

Wow it scares me to read these horror stories ive read. I have a 2011 1500. And luckily i havent had any problems (yet) it has 23000 miles on it. Thats what worries me. I dont drive it much so im scared i will start having problems after the warranty runs out because dodge dont give a damn about you after you buy the vehicle but they will tell you anything you wanna hear before you buy it. Huh! I think dodge teaches sales how to screw ya!!! Lol. But no i really love my truck and hope it has no problems. And ford, chevy arent any better. Good luck to all you dodge owners

Hi, I've Been a dodge guy my whole life, owned nothing but dodge. I even own a srt10 ram. My 2011 ram 4x4 QC, every option, bought new. Currently has 28k on it. Have never thought you could have so many problems with a vehicle in my life!, and working with Chrysler! They are the worst! Have had a new crank put in from a noise they still can't find! Has been in the shop more than on the road! Even the dealer claims they have never seen such a lemon. It took off on me with 10k miles on it. Almost killed my son and I! At over 100 mph couldn't stop even with the key turned off! I could go on and on about problems. Bottom line, don't buy a new dodge! They won't stand behind it! And most all problems are related to the EMC, and I can prove it! Just wish I had enough money to fight them in court!, I would make them look like idiots!

Why manufacturers do not run test before selling market?
