Recall Alert: 2011 Dodge Ram 1500

2011 Dodge Ram 1500Chrysler Group is recalling more than 56,000 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks over an issue with the rear axle bearing.

On some models built between September 2009 and December 2010, not enough lubricant was placed in the rear axle bearing. As a result, the bearing could seize, increasing the risk of an accident.

The bearing failure typically occurred within the first 500 miles, preceded by a groan or grinding noise, according to some reports.

Chrysler will notify affected owners in February. Dealerships will add 20 ounces of fluid to the rear axle bearing.

For more info, owners can contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403 or NHTSA’s hot line at 888-327-4236.

Why are they going to wait until February to notify owners?

M. Miller

They were building 2011's in September of 2009???

Do not weary... if your's is one of the recalled one, it will let go before 2000 Km...

mine went a week ago... @ 1100 Km. Need a complete rear end... by waiting, it will cost Dodge a lot more...

4 at our dealership are sitting in the yard waiting for parts back order...

You may be better to have a rear end replaced instead of getting lubricant added to one that overheated and is on the edge of going...

If you can't Dodge it, Ram it. LOL...

Dodge is slow to work this problem.I checked my rear axle today on my 2010 Ram 1500 and it was low,I had to add 12 oz's to bring the oil level up. have not noticed any noises lucky for me..

Robert M

My understanding of this from other forums is that they put the fill plug too low and are overfilling through the vent to top off. If true this could be a future problem when a lube shop checks the oil and returns it to the too low level.

My 20011 ram had problems from beginning

They have to widen the recall years! I have a 2009 1500 and 2 weeks ago the rear end lockedup on me! wasnt fun!! also broke the tranfercase in a bunch of places and the driveshaft fell off! o ya it also lit on fire! talk about scary!
its been in the shop for almost 2 weeks! still waiting on parts!

Steve

I took my vehicle in a couple months ago for this repair. Sat at the dealership for 2 1/2 hours before they told me they didn't have any of the parts. According to the dealership, Nyle Maxwell in Austin, Tx "Crystler will only allow them one set of parts every 3 weeks". The dealership said it is on a first come first serve basis, so odds of getting this taken care of are slim.

JESSE

can i just take it to a shop and have a new aftermarket rear end cap placed and filled

larry

Not only the rear end recall, there are 2 more. The electric door locks and power steering line. My a/c does not work at an idol unless i turn of fan then turn it back on. Sorry I bought a Dodge now

I agree with Larry. My truck was recalled, 2011 1500. I am afraid that when the 36,000 mile warranty runs out of things are really going to get ugly. I am thinking about selling the truck, and ride the bus. Also service is really bad gas is to expensive.

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 that I'm sure will be part of the recall. My question is, can this issue have an effect on the rear tires? I have about 22500 miles on my truck & the rear tires need replacing already.
