Reader Review of the Week: 2011 Subaru Legacy

Reader Review

“CJCOHAN” of western New York just bought a 2011 Subaru Legacy, after owning a long line of domestic vehicles. After 2,500 miles, CJCOHAN is impressed with the Legacy’s gas mileage, stereo, and ride and handling. The only peeve was some sluggishness from the 2.5-liter four-cylinder powertrain. 2011 Subaru Legacy

“This is my 1st subaru of any kind, and I'll tell you what, I'm thoroughly impressed. Coming from a long line of domestic vehicles, I had my questions and concerns. It took me all together too long to look into these vehicles, but once I finally made the decision to test drive one, the Legacy was by FAR above and beyond any one of the other vehicles I was in the market for.

“The midsized sedan market covers many vehicles, and make no mistake you will love the road handling ‘sure footedness’ feel you will get from Legacy. The great comfort and excellent design of the interior was refreshing for a previous domestic owner and even outperformed the other top imports I drove. From Ford, Chevy to Toyota, Nissan and all of the others in between, there wasn't a match for the secure feeling you get from driving an AWD sedan. The balance and percise handling was second to none. Oh, and not to mention the great gas milage on this AWD vehicle is very impressive. After 2500ish miles, I'm averaging (mostly city/suburb driving) 27.8 mpg. The Harman/Kardon sound system is absolutely brilliant as well, a definite must upgrade option!! Also another available option that is "must have" up here in the Northeast is the All Weather Package. Heated front seats, heated driver and passenger mirrors, as well as heated windshield wipers!!

“You cannot go wrong with this vehicle. My only pet peeve is that I should have gone with the 3.6 cylinder or the turbo 4. It seems to be a bit sluggish at times and not as "snappy" as some of the other vehicles, but by no means was that a reason to shy away from all the positives this vehicle presents. Especially for anyone that experiences an inclimate weather as we do in the Northeast.”

Then we wouldn't have this:

"Oh, and not to mention the great gas milage on this AWD vehicle is very impressive."

The Subie is nice especially when compared to the Detroit brands but it's also a real dog. I could never drive the 4 cylinder version for a couple of years given it's lack of power. The 3.6 is a decent engine but then the car becomes way over priced. That's why I picked up a lightly used 2010 A4 for $27,500. It's the best of all worlds: Power, Mileage, AWD.
