2011 Dodge Durango: An Early Look
Automakers these days love to tease enthusiasts and the media with glimpses of upcoming models. Increasingly, they’ve used sites like Facebook and Twitter to generate buzz. Dodge is using the traditional website to show off very up-close images of the redesigned Durango, due to go into production late this fall.
You can Tweet and share the site on Facebook of course, but we’re surprised that this Flash-heavy site — naturally, I couldn’t see it on my iPhone on the way to work this morning — is the lone place with info for now.
If you’re interested in ordering a Durango sight unseen — at least sight of images that show off the whole SUV — we hear you can go to a dealer now, but you’ll have to ask which trim level may be right for you. Dodge is continuing to use its new array of trim-level designations for the Durango, including Crew, Express, Heat and the more traditional R/T.
We’ll have more information on the new model as we get closer to launch. For now, check out a few more up-close images below.

seems like Ford and GM are keeping up w/ edgy styling, Ford leading in my opinion (and Im a GM guy) and Dodge is lagging behind. Dodge was leading w/ that semi truck look they developed years ago, but they are sticking with it, with not enough revisions, now looking dated. Those Ford and Chev front ends and styling in general are winning, they look current and still tough.
Will this be a front-wheel drive unibody design or will it have a traditional truck frame and rear wheel drive?
Jeremy,
It will be based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and that SUV's unique unibody design and 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. So SUV fans who don't like all the new crossovers will have a new model to check out.
Everything we've heard says the Durango will be a stretched version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee to fit three rows of seats but I don't believe that has been confirmed.
So this will be bigger than the Equinox, Edge and STX(Cadillac's crossover)
GPS,
Def. bigger than Equinox and SRX. Should be bigger than the Edge, but you never know.
I'll try again, since you didn't post my correction yesterday. We posted the teaser image video on all of our social media sites/pages: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blog, and not just on the Dodge site.
Ed,
Feel free to email corrections to me directly any time. However, I just went back to the Dodge page on Facebook and still don't see a Durango update from Monday. I see something that links to a Dodge blog called Redletterdodge.com but not pictures hosted on the Dodge Facebook page itself. Facebook isn't the easiest site to navigate so maybe I'm missing it, but it's not on your wall as far as I can tell.
unibody...UGH!!! That cuts towing capacity in 1/2. I understand people are concerned with fuel mileage, but what about people that need a truck frame based SUV for towing. I don't want a pickup, so now my options are even more limited. Don't we already have enough uni-body crossovers in the market? Not sure why folks who weren't towing would buy truck based SUV's anyway...r they stupid?
how much will it cost
@Joe,
Unless I'm mistaken, the Grand Cherokee platform that this will be built on is a reinforced unibody, so it tows more than a crossover, but should get better mileage than a traditional truck-based SUV
how can you say that the fords are stylish. on saturday mornings there is a animated cartoon called bob the builder and i believe that the ford team of designers watched that program and that is how they developed the front grilles on the ford pickup and several of the other fored cars.the look like animated smileing equipment on bob the builder. and as for chevy they need to drop either the chevy line or the gmc as they look so much alike that it is just a waste of money to produce both lines .
Dodge is known to be one of the best reputed all over the world. This 2011 Dodge Durango looks stunning i am sure it will rock as it is fully made of modern technology.
