Cars.com Reviews the 2010 Nissan Sentra

2010 Nissan Sentra
The 2010 Nissan Sentra is the proverbial also-ran of the compact car segment. The model isn’t as popular as the Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, yet the Sentra outdoes both cars in many respects, according to Cars.com editor Mike Hanley. The model offers distinctive ride quality, good acceleration and affordable packaging compared to its competitors, but is that enough to offset the Sentra’s subpar fuel economy rating? Read the full review to find out how the Sentra stacks up.

Its hard to believe that the sentra gets 28 MPG in some trims. My Tiburon V6 gets 32-33 on the highway...

JJ,

Tiburon v6 is rated 20-23 and I don't know how it makes 32.

I've driven the Sentra "S" many times (over > 10 times, each time for 3-5 days). I agree with the review, but would also like to point out some thgs that are of advantage/disadvantage for this car:

Disadvantage:
- the Versa/Tiida is JUST AS GOOD as the Sentra (in Sedan form), unless you want leather seats. In fact, you've a larger interior / rear passenger spaces in the V/T.
- Quality (long term) is questionable. All my experiences are from rentals, and I can tell that this car have issues when being abused. Steering "clunk" is sthg that I've NOT see a fix even in the 2009 model year. Some of the interior plastics will fall apart if you don't give it TLC (in the case of a rental).
- Subpar engine performance/noise. Sure it has good mileage (which is very important), but more updated engines in the Nissan line up could provide EVEN better mileage at higher hp (e.g. the upcoming Juke).

Now to the advantage:
- PRICE! It's a bad deal with u compare it to the Versa/Tiida, but excellent deal when compared to the Corolla/Civic. Heck - it's an excellent deal even if u compare it to the new Ford Focus (for a daily commute usage, w/o any fancy gadgets).
- Durability: it is a workhorse. Cheap to maintain and fix.
- Fuel mileage. If u drive feather foot, u can beat the mileage rating easily!

@JJ - I believe u r referring to the SE-R model. If my research is correct - Tiburon V6 is a 2700cc engine, correct? Sentra SE-R uses 2500cc engine (which is an older engine since 1999), but with higher hp/torque rating then the Tiburon. Thus, ur Hyundai is getting better fuel efficiency at the sacrifice of performance. Since we are talking 'bou Sports coupe here, more people will prefer performance rather than fuel mileage...

Dont't take this the wrong way...but, how much time do you have on your hands, AR?

Amuro Ray

@ Bowrider,

In this economy, not everyday is a busy day, even if you've a job ;)

Bowrider

I understand.

i've always liked the sentra and would definitely give it a look if i were in the market for a new compact car. i agree that it doesn't get the attention it probably should.

the fuel economy numbers for the 2.0L w/CVT are pretty solid, so i'm not sure what 'sub-par' fuel economy rating colin is talking about.

Didn't cars.com already review the Sentra back in June?

I gave a try to Nissan sentra and felt that it is far better than the previous models. The seats were quite comfortable and the pick up was also smooth. I really enjoyed driving it.

PRICE! It's a bad deal with u compare it to the Versa/Tiida, but excellent deal when compared to the Corolla/Civic.

Looks is average but price are very good and if the fuel efficiency is good then it will cover the market very easily....

If you are looking for an affordable sedan, the Nissan Sentra is definitely worth a look on the shortlist. Not only is it comfortable, but it also has interesting features in its base model.
