Cars.com Reviews the 2010 Honda Civic

Civic
Rarely does a car stay on top of its game the way the Honda Civic has over the years. A perennial top-seller, the Civic does not disappoint for the 2010 model year. Cars.com editor Kelsey Mays explains what the Honda has been doing so well with the Civic, and where it stands in a highly competitive segment.

I do agree that the Civic is one of the best small cars on sale today. It's easy to run and own, handles and drives pretty well, and it's one of the most practical small cars out there. Its only demerit is that you have to pay well over $20,000 to get stability control on the high-level EX trim. Almost every other car in this class has it available on even the lower trim level or has standardized it on all models. Part of the fault is that the Civic hasn't been redesigned since 2006.

The next Civic will likely address that shortcoming to keep the car competitive, and to satisfy the Federal mandate that all new cars must have stability control as standard by 2012.

I never really took notice of the Civic but it's a great looking little car. Very attractive lines.

C

I'm very disappointed in my Civic. It's the first Honda I've had and it's been very unreliable so far.

Troy S.

I own a 2010 EX and enjoy driving it. I exceed the city/highway fuel ratings by a fair margin every single time I fill up. Compared to the last generation Civic, this one is more peppy, handles better and offers a quieter ride. I have had zero issues with the car.

Zack

This is a reliable but hardly a refined car. It's very noisy and rough riding and headed for a redesign if Honda plans to compete with Cruze.

Paul

I actually prefer the looks of the previous generation 2-doors.Seems everything now looks like a melted hunk of chocolate.

J

Zack,

FYI, the Civic is on a 5 year cycle, meaning it will get redesigned whether the Cruze comes out or not.

Troy S.

The Cruze seems like it will be a decent car. Can't wait to see it on the streets. I won't be trading my Civic in anytime soon though.

Zack

The Civic is an icon`- and we'll have to see how good the new small cars from Ford and Chevy are put together and stay together. Honda needs to keep all the good stuff about the current Civic, but quiet things down a bit and maybe add a little interior room. The original Civics did everything better than the horrible vegas and pintos of the '70s, but now the competition is pouring on the coals.

Troy S.

Zack,

I agree with most of what you said except for increasing the Civic's interior room. If one needs more room, they should probably move up to an Accord. The Civic has been growing in size and weight over it's past generations and if it keeps doing so, it won't be a Civic anymore. I think Honda should actually slightly reduce it's size and then maintain that size.

Zack

You're right. The current Civic has about the same room inside as some of the earlier Accords. It's like an arms race as the competitors keep inching up in size. I was again thinking of competition with the Cruze, but you make a good point.

Troy S.

Zack,

I'm pretty excited about the Cruze. GM really needs a strong contender in the small car market and it may very well have found it in the Cruze. The power ratings, fuel economy and styling at least make it competitive. Good luck Cruze!

Tony

Guys,

the Cruze will come out with already outdated design.
Current Civic has more modern design then the Cruze, which is not even sold yet.
It will not be competition of designs, for sure. It will be competition of trade-offs.

Zack

Tony where do you get this stuff. Everything I've read says the Cruze is a new design with all sorts of innovations and is better for noise and ride than Civic and Corolla. The real question is how well will it be assembled and what is the quality of the components that make up the car. Please explain your comment about Cruze being outdated because I'm curious about that.

Beautiful car. I love the design, and how fuel efficient the Civic is.

loufalce

Got the Civic VP four door. Stylish, well built, well handling car. Good MPG, good performance and handling. Fit and finish is of a high order.Love this car, one of the best I`ve ever owned. Dealer sucked-but thats another story.
