We’re still waiting for a full set of high-resolution images from VW, but the company has posted nine close-up shots of the interior and exterior on VW.com, which we have posted below. The most revealing of these photos are the push-button start and the small in-dash navigation unit images. You can read more about the 2011 Jetta here.

I've always thought the Jetta was a good looking car, but is it me or does it look like a Ford Focus?

Tony

2.5 SEL. Definitely Ford

Rear is elegant, like A4.
Front is boring. Nice proportions, balanced look.
Overall quite boring, Japanize-like.

Ziggy

Kinda bland boring but definately not Japansese-like. From the side it reminds me of the Malibu and I can see how it resembles the Focus in the front.
Wish they would produce the Space Up and send it stateside.

I know it's designed to have a lower entry price than the current Jetta, but dare I say (at least in these pics) that the '11's interior looks lower-quality?

55

It dosn't look like Japanese, but boring like Japanese

ermatthe

can u say 'zzzzzzz"

Besides Corolla the Japanese are pretty wild these days. Have you seen a Mazda3?

JM

Mazda is just Mazda...its the "other" Japanese brand that isnt the big volume seller like Toyota, Honda, or Nissan, so it can be whatever it wants to be.

that said, take Mazda as an example. for mainstream vehicles in broad segments that sell in large volumes, at least in this country, what is "exciting" to automotive enthusiasts does not sell well with everyday consumers.

the latest Civic when it came out was a wild look though. No one saw that coming.

Ziggy

Yea most buyers tend to like "old school", bland, stick to what has always worked. This is why most don't like the scion designs, Mazda3, new Fiesta, the cube, etc - designs that are little funky, edgey, non- mainstream.

Tony

Americans like boring cars because they are boring themselves. They don't like soccer but love baseball. They call most dynamic game in the world "a boring one" while they can sit there and watch fat_a$$, steroid-pumped people trying to hit a ball once in a blue moon.

I like the simplicity of the car..I feel comfortable with the pictures, means I like the car..Thanks for the post!

Zack

Soccer is the most pointless sport ever invented. The most exciting moments are when the fans riot. Baseball, on the other hand, is an exciting game of skill and strategy. At least we can agree that the new Passat is boring to look at and will have poor reliability. Somebody wake up 55.

Fleecy

Mazda3 is actually Canada's best-selling car right now, and has been neck-and-neck with Civic and Corolla since 2005.

I guess canadians are funkier, then!

Tor

I owned the 99.5 Jetta GLS VR6. Lovely car with a hip modern style. Sadly reliability rapidly went downhill at 90K and by 111K (sold) it had gotten pretty bad. Nevertheless, the car still looked modern when I sold it in 2006.

The last redesign with a massive disappointment (Corollaesque), but this is even worse. My first thought was Ford Focus. But at looking more closely even the Focus looks better from the front. This is just blander.

Put the new Hyundai Sonata next to this lost-in-the-parking-lot Jetta and you'll appreciate how conservative VW has been with this design.

...the Golf looks much, much better IMO.

Zack,

You forgot the moment when you flip to Telemundo and the commentators yell and a huge "GOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL" (no 'A' on purpose) appears on the screen.

Although rioting takes the cake in terms of entertainment value.

HOWARD

I am a huge VW fan but this jetta sucks and I am so mad at my self for having my hopes up to high!!!

GR

The current generation looks like a current generation Corolla. This new Jetta looks like the previous generation Corolla. VW has taken a step backwards. I think I'd rather spend my money on a new '11 Elantra.

GR

Pardon me ... I meant "The current generation *Jetta looks like a current generation Corolla ...

Tony

"I am a huge VW fan..."

I am a huge Detroit Lions fan.

Steven Rego

Well, one of the reasons why I like VW is that they are cool, simple, and elegant... not flashy like a madza 3 which looks nice, but what about a rainy day? What if you want to woo your passenger and your passerbys instead of electrocuting them? What if you want a massage instead of a royal kick in the ass? Then you want a volkswagen.

It's simple, streamlined, by no means ugly or badly designed. The front only continues the theme from the cc and golf... it's simply luxurious. I think they could have done better, but then again I always think that. What were you guys expecting, the return of CHRIST?

Amy

I'm a huge VW fan and a huge Detroit Tigers fan! :)

candice

I agree with most of the posts on this blog: the new Jetta looks like a Ford Focus. It is boring, and it looks cheap. VW has disappointed me for the last 5 years. The last Jetta design looked like a Toyota Corolla. In my opinion, VW was one of the only car manufacturers that offered an affordable, sleek, modern, European-looking car. Now it just blends in with the rest. They're not really quality vehicles like Hondas or Toyotas, so now that they've ditched the style, there's really no reason to buy VW.

new_jetta_suckssssssss!!

Evolution is absolutely wrong. The VW car design is evolving to ITS END year by year --- it's ugly and disgusting. Why does vw need to imitate other cars and make the so-called low cost ones. Is this because they worship "made in china" philosophy?

Hmmmm...it seems ok.

TK

Very disappointed in the 2011 Jetta It looks like an old nondescript Nissan or something.
