Honda Tops Survey for Customers, Quality
Consumer Reports conducted a survey of 1,700 random folks (not subscribers) to see how automakers ranked in terms of their commitment to both customers and quality. The results were pretty interesting. The random sampling overwhelmingly placed Honda at the top of both lists at 71% and 73%, respectively. They were followed, distantly, by Ford and Nissan.

All the media bashing of Toyota recalls cost it a hefty price in this quality survey.
I can see why Chrysler is rated so low. I have owned a new Chrysler since 1984, never again. I had a PT Cruiser with 3 payments left and they told me if I traded it in on a new Chrysler product they would waive up to my last 3 payments. I traded it in with 1 payment left and they did not waive the payment. They lied. They didn't even care about what they told me. And their dealer, Broadway Dodge in Denver did not care either. They suck!!!
"I have owned a new Chrysler since 1984"
Get a new one every year,or still have the 84?
Those 80s Chrysler products were real workhorses....as compared to the stuff they make now.The 2.2 would make the Neon/PT engine look like a Yugo powerplant.
Wow, Toyota must be bad to be lower than Chevrolet.
The Accord must be carrying Honda in the survey. Insight and Ridgline are stiffs in the market. CRV and Crosstour have horrible styling. Civic is a good car but lots of road noise. While they still have the good reputation, Honda needs to hire away Hyundai's chief stylist - a move Mercedes did a year or so ago.
Zack,
you are out of place here. This is about "commitment to both customers and quality" and not about styling or value ("...Insight and Ridgline are stiffs in the market. CRV and Crosstour have horrible styling...").
@Paul The 2.2 would make the Neon/PT engine look like a Yugo powerplant.
The PT and the Neon engines are not the same. PT = 2.4L Neon = 2.0L.
It never ceases to amaze me at the lack of basic reading comprehension skills displayed by the likes of 'Zack'. It's like a five year old who is so excited to post just anything that they can't even comprehend the article.
I'm not sure how really useful this survey is. If it's just 1,700 random owners, many of whom might not be in the market, it's likely many of these people haven't been paying much attention other than to the most attention-getting headlines.
Sales is what really counts and Toyota is doing fine in that category.
Tony, the products produced by Honda should relate to impressions of quality and customer commitment. All I was saying is that the survey must not have talked to too many Ridgeline owners, like my neighbor who hates the fact that he only gets a maximum of 17 mpg highway in a compact V6 truck - worse mileage that a full size Chevy or Ford truck. Sales reflect that the Ridgeline is not Honda's finest hour. I'm guessing the impressions making up the results of the survey are based on the respondents' experiences with Accords and maybe Civics. So while Honda is on top of that survey, I think they need to make some adjustments in the rest of their lineup. Todd thanks for adding nothing to the discussion and proving the point that you're even a bigger dork than I am.
This matches my experience exactly. Our Honda product and service experiences over the years have been excellent, and Nissan has been second.
We left Toyota in 2005 due to bad product quality and truly horrendous service.
Zack,
I understand your point but still, you can't say "bad quality and commitment" because your car has bad gas mileage vs competition.
I know people who wouldn't switch their Ridgeline for anything else.
but "...worse mileage that a full size Chevy or Ford truck..." - I am not sure about it. Last time I drove Ford full size it took 12mpg if not less.
And still, their Pilot is not good on gas but is wonderful SUV with quality and commitment.
Interesting that you can buy a Ridgeline knowing the gas mileage it gets from looking at the sticker and be upset that that it actually gets 17 mpg. It's rated at 15/20 - average 17. It's like saying I'm upset my car does not have a cd player and I knew that when I bought it therefore I should rate it lower on quality.
An earlier post says "CR-V has horrible styling..." It must not be THAT bad, it's one of the top-selling vehicles in the industry and its category, and it also has one of the highest consumer satisfaction ratings of any vehicle type. Not bad for a car with "horrible styling." You can't judge a book by its cover!
Horrible styling? Not for me, I own a v (CRV) and I would not trade it for anything. Its an awesome little suv. Very reliable and excellent gas mileage. Good quality vehicle.
I bought a 1996 Chevy Cavalier, and from the outset it was nothing but trouble. The horn broke, trunk latch broke and the billfolds lost their elasticity, all in the first 5 years. Then in 2005 with just 80,000 miles the engine went to pieces, and it cost me 2200 to fix. I was told the metal "retarded." Here in Ca it cost me "just" 2200, but had I stayed in New York it would have been over 5,000. I got the better deal because they are a bit more honest out here. I also was told that it looked clean inside which meant I took care of it, so they got Chevy to pay for part of it. Chevy better then Toyota? In a pigs eye! I will never touch an American car again!
By the way in regard to the Chevy Cavalier, it was rated good in 1996 by Consumer Report then changed to bad a year later. This was suppose to be the newly designed model, but it stayed the same in reliability;crap!
I bought the 1996 newly designed Cavalier, and from the outset it was trouble with horn problems, trunk latch problems, billfolds losing their elasticity, and the worst thing being the engine broke down after just 80,000 miles and had to be fixed. It cost me 2200 but would have been more except that it was done here in Ca and not New York where I bought it. Chevy agreed to pay part of it because the dealer repair shop told them I took care of the engine, and it should not have happened. I will never touch a chevy or any American car again? Anyone remember the K Cars? They saved chrysler but were terribly made. Chevy rated better then Toyota? I doubt it!
