Toyota Considers New Recall For Corolla, Matrix

2007toyotamatrix

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Toyota is determining how to address 1.2 million potentially faulty vehicles. The 2005-2007 model year Corolla and Matrix may have faulty engine control units leading to stalled engines. There had been 76 complaints on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website regarding the issue as of earlier this month.

Toyota says the problem could occur in 0.8% of the models over 10 years and that it would always lead to an engine warning light and a stalled engine. By our math, that would be 9,600 cars.

The Free Press says that any action could also affect the 2005-2007 Pontiac Vibe, which was built at the same plant as the Matrix.

I think Toyota is going to get hurt in short term but in long term, all these recalls, will help build consumers trust in Toyota's self correct customer oriented way of doing business.

Unlike American cars, Toyota is not going to ask for a loan or bail out.

Oh please. Toyota already asked the Japanese gov't for a loan a year ago. Did they get it? Who knows? Tokyo's not talking. But we know they asked. Might not be our tax dollars, but they sure were asking for SOMEONE'S tax dollars.

So the so-called "gold standard" was actually brass, well well well, I guess Consumer Reports was really the bunch of knotheads we all suspected....Way to go CR you're now batting 0.

If you aren't a TOYOTA employee, you are really very innocent

"""S E L F C O R R E C T customer oriented way of doing business"" ????

After years of stalling, a terrible accident and a visit to JAPAN by NHTSA brass, telling them if the do not recall they will be forced to, AND ONGOING CUSTOMER BASHING ???!!!

And nowm an additional software/computer failure!!

David,

Would the potential recall affect the 2008 Matrix? As I recall from a Cars.com review, no changes from the '07 model were implemented for the
'08 model, ie. they are one and the same.

Paul

Another day, another Toyota issue. This one has been ongoing for 4 years now.I'm sure both Toyota and NHTSA covered it up for as long as it could, until now with all the truth finally coming out.Toyota trade in value? Whats that??

Dan

Eh, stalled engine recall is an annoyance, but doesn't really raise my level of concern.
Really, recalls are a normal part of any auto company's behavior. Mistakes are inevitable, and fixes are expected. However, when a problem causes a vehicle to be dangerous and a company delays action on it, that's when we should be concerned.
If we continually get all up in arms when any recall occurs, then it will be difficult to see the difference between those that are minor and those that really matter.

Hmm, my 05 Trix has 93K and never stalled. No problems really. Only normal fixes like tires/brakes/oil/spark plugs. Oh, the Matrix and Vibe were built at different plants, the Trix is made alongside the Lex RX in Canada, while the Vibe in California.

my wife's 07 corolla hasn't given any problems until now. i started the car and went back in the house and when i came back the engine was off which was strange because i knew i had turned it on. i tried it again and realized the engine was acting and the check engine light came on afterwards. good thing it wasn't on the highway or at some busy intersection. toyota needs to address their problems and stop trying to cover them up or else they are going to have a PR nightmare that will send them straight to the bottom like hyundai in the 90s!!!
