Cars.com Reviews the 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI

VWtdi
While diesels remain a small slice of the American car market, Cars.com reviewer Mike Hanley reports that the 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI is worth the occasional diesel-scarcity hassle. A fun, energetic drive that firmly rebuts the choking-on-fumes stereotype of diesel vehicles past, the TDI also gets better fuel economy than any of its gas counterparts. Check out Hanley’s full review to find out why the TDI is worth a look.

Too bad their dealer network is awful and incompetent.

And long-term reliability is still spotty. And of course it's very expensive (27k as tested!).

segfault & JG, you are spot-on. Too many "cons" and not enough "pros" with the entire VW product line. I've had too many bad experiences with VW's to go down that road again.

Zack

Unreliable, slow, odd transmission, with a ride that rattles your fillings loose - all that and a cramped cabin for only 28K. I don't see any advantage to this over the Fusion Hybrid, which you can buy for the same price and get better reliability, ride, and mileage. Prius looks like a much better car, too.

I've driven the TDI, Prius, and Fusion Hybrid and would definitely put the TDI at the bottom. It has a nice interior but for overall quality the Prius would get my vote. For the record I currently drive an Escape.

SG

Does the Jetta Sportwagen TDI also have the Sport suspension?

SG,
There is a new limited edition version of the Jetta TDI with a sport suspension and other bits. Check it out here:

To get better fuel economy than any of its gas counterparts, the 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI is a good choice when buying a car. On the other hand, it's also wise to purchase a 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI used car from any used cars Westminster dealers for a lower price with the same quality.
