Top 10 Most Dangerous Drivers by Profession

Cellphone

As if lawyers needed another knock against them, it now turns out they are the most dangerous drivers, according to a study by Insurance.com.

The insurance rating agency ranked the top 10 most dangerous drivers by profession and found attorneys at the top of the list, with 44% claiming a prior accident when comparison shopping for car insurance at Insurance.com.

The least dangerous drivers turn out to be — counterintuitively — athletes (17% claim an accident) and homemakers (24%).

Insurance.com speculates that people with stressful careers and heavy workloads likely spend more time in the car and more time taking part in distracted-driving practices such as talking on cell phones. This would make sense for the No. 2 spot on the list — financial professionals, another popularly bashed position.

Let this also be a lesson to you that every time you plug even the most innocuous information into the Internet, someone is usually trying to use it for some nefarious purpose, like single-handedly creating more lawyer jokes.

Check out the top 10 most dangerous drivers by profession after the jump.

Maybe attorneys, due to extensive knowledge of liability, are more likely to report any accident no matter how small both when it occurs and when applying for insurance?

Hey I agree!!!!

Big mechanics creeper

My aunt is a lawyer that kinda fits into this category, and the reason is because of lack of practice, she lives in a dense urban setting and doesn't have to drive often (her car gets more new batteries than tanks of gas... ans yes for some reason they just replace it instead of recharge LOL... think 20000 km in 11 years)she walks everywhere.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing really useful information it will really helpful for me..

Looking at the top three, is seems to be people who think they are better than the law / above the law. Break enough traffic laws, and you are bound to have an "accident" sooner or later.
Some of the others are a little hard to figure - maybe the dog groomers let their clients drive???

Pierre

Well, Skinner, you certainly win the award for ignorant uninformed comment of the day.

I think Doug G is probably on to something. Because we know that insurance fraud is a crime, we attorneys are probably more inclined to report previous accidents than non-attorneys.

I also think that making character judgments about an entire profession based on a flimsy stereotype shows that some folks have to compulsively compensate for their small brains by hurling invectives around about things they don't understand.

You could argue that most attorneys work in the central business districts of cities where the traffic is heavier and the risks greater. You could argue that they might be distracted by their caseload and long hours. Meanwhile, professional athletes often have their transportation needs attended to by their teams, or in the case of Tiger Woods, women who want to "give him a ride."

Certain types of drivers think they can do whatever it takes to get ahead and the rules don't apply to them. In this category you will see sttorneys, nurses, soccer moms, and many large SUV drivers.
Kids look to their parents for examples, and most parents nowadays think that a yellow light indicates you have 5 seconds to gun it and go through.

Look hard in the mirror.

This survey left out an interesting knob: what percentage of people involved in an accident had kids in the car ?

After two decades of accident free driving, I was involved in two fender benders the past 3 years which were, being honest here, partly due to having two ornery kids in the back seat.

Some truck drivers Holding their phone against their ear and pulling 80,000 plus down the hwy. Dump trucks are just as bad. I've been dealing with these idots since the cell
phones came out. I use a blue tooth but I will not answer my phone unless it is safe too.
