2011 Kia Sportage: First Look

We just published a review of the all-new 2011 Kia Sorento, which is selling like hotcakes already, and then Kia releases images of its smaller Sportage today in advance of its March unveiling at the Geneva International Motor Show.

The 2011 Sportage is “longer, lower and wider” than the old model and will have more interior and cargo volume, Kia says. We don’t know much else about the new Sportage other than the eight images of the European version we have above and below. We doubt much will change for the U.S. besides perhaps light treatments. We sure hope we get those wheels, though. And by the looks of things, we don’t believe visibility won’t be a big plus for this small crossover.

By visibility, are you meaning how well the car is noticed? Because the view out looks to be dreadful.

How much of this vechicle(if any) is related to the Tucson?

Belt line is just a bit high - yes. But looks good in general. And better then Crv, Rav4, Rogue.
One thing I noticed is that Kia and Hyundai dropped those goofy designs they adopted before. Remember Tiburon? That was screaming "Value" at you. Hopefully quality will follow.

The new Tucson and Sportage designs make the Rav4 and Escape look really really dated. It will be interesting to see what Toyota and Ford do for their redesigns.

i bet Kia is glad they snagged that former Audi designer! R those LED DRL's?? Makes their old models look so outdated! They need 2 drop the Rio & bring over the Cee'd!

Lately, Kia and Hyundai have the nicest looking vehicles of any automaker to my eyes.

I like the new body style and I think Kia is on the right track. No offence but I can't believe anyone is crazy enough to buy a new car though right now in this economy. Considering that a healthy chunk of 2010 Cash 4 Clunkers cars have already been repossessed (i.e. repofinder.com) why not just go to local banks and credit unions and buy these repo cars back for half the retail price?

Finally! The sportage is gonna live up to it's name! Looks great too! Am I the only one to notice that the tail lights look like the ones on the VW Tiguan, though?

watch out honda and toyota, you can't fool people anymore and charge extra for so called quality

Am I the only one that thinks this looks more like a concept car more than anything?

Hoping the interior is as good as the one on the Tucson...pricing ought to be fairly good, too, considering the larger Sorento is rather impressive on its own.

Hyundai was telling you that for the last couple of years.
Well. Last week I was sitting in their top-line Sonata and believe me, the Sonata is only looks like Accord if you don't look into small details. Then you start noticing misalignments and gaps, material cheapness and suddenly you understand where Honda beats Hyundai still. I am sure that this car is a big leap forward for Kia but, still, will not be good enough, especially in the powertrain department. Kia's engines found to be crude vs Honda or Toyota, transmissions and suspension found to be not tuned as well also. But this particular design is ahead for sure.

Perhaps you don't realize this, but according to the quality charts Hyundai is actually beating Toyota and Honda. My friends mom has a new Rav4 and my new(ish) accent puts its fit and finish to shame! But thats not to say that there isn't specific vehicles that are better or worse then others, perhaps I have a good accent and she has a poor Rav4, either way, Mine is still better.

This looks really nice! I like how the front end has the family resemblance to the Sorento and I like how the front end differs and looks sportier! Good job Kia!

Toyota is known to have some fit and finish problems. But even my Highlander will beat Sonata hands down. Both cars are $25K
I will try to see more of Hyundais for this.

Overall, I like the design. I like the front better than the back. Agree with previous comments that it looks much better than any Toyota or Honda product. Still, the car could use a little bit of trimming - looks a teeny bit chunky to my eyes (maybe the pillars?). Hope Kia dials in the steering and handling to match Hondas. Then they've got a hot seller for sure.

but at the same time you should compare huyndai's 1oyr/100k miles unbeatable warranty pluse sonata is $3k cheaper than accord. so that saved $3000 one make cd in bank for 10yrs and earn interest!!

Looks like to be a great car! I dont know if I'd trust Kia to make a good car or not, but their heads are in the game, they better follow up with their quality.

As much as I liked the most recent Santa Fe and Tucson when they came out... I think Kia's done an even nicer job with the new Sorento and Sportage.

Although it's billed as a unique model, the Kizashi Sport is more along the lines of an option package available on the top two Kizashi trim levels.

My dad want to buy a Mercedes E. I really try to convince him to buy this Kia Sportage. Mercedes is a great brand, but the new sedan is just ugly :(

Kia sportage has a good warranty deal but not many people own a kia sportage. Is the kia sportage a bad car?

WOW! It's a family car, can be use on vacation, family wants to camp out of town, going to beaches, etc etc. This Car is for family bonding :)

It's not bad, but if KIA didn't improve the build quality, its gonna look like junk in a few years just like every other 3+ year old KIA. Every KIA I see that's a few years old has missing hubcaps, fogged up headlights and faded paint; not to mention the misc. body damage. KIAs are throw away cars and I guess that's how the owners treat them.

2011 Kia Sportage has an impressive styling, technology and utility features which I also love but it looks similar to Honda CR-V designs. How about its quality? Hmm...

I have had mine for a week and absolutely love it. If you told me a few years ago I would be driving a Kia I would have laughed in your face. This drives great, gets good gas mileage, interior is nice and even has bluetooth built into the stereo. So much for the money and an awesome warranty. Yes I am impressed!

I have been following Kia and Hyundai for the past couple of years and they are no longer the 2nd class car makers.Honda even released a statement that they now have to get busy moving forward because they are looking at Kia and Hyundai's tail lights fading in the distance.I liked the new Tuscon as well but the kicker for me was the mid range Sportage LX has standard heated seats,alloy wheels,and intergated turn signals and that front end is 2nd to none!! Whoooo Hoooooo, I pick up my new Sportage on Monday.

I just bought the 2011 Kia Sportage on Labor Day. (in red) I am IN LOVE with this vehicle and highly recommend it. I had looked at quite a few vehicles, and ended up with a middle of the road model as far as extra features. Plenty of space, the exterior is gorgeous, dashboard setup is phenomenol. All around excellence. :)

Well, for the Sportage, there have been no major changes made since its introduction.

Driving the car would surely make your personality look quite enchanting and make a mark over the others. This would indeed go well with almost all the styles of people. This is because it looks simple and yet has that elegance and the sturdiness intact.

WoW..Kia you are it..This new stylish Sportage is only the best new CUV available now!With that new six speed tranny that Hyundai too 4 years to design in-house and is a work of art to that Theta 2 engine that is fantastic.The engine is so smooth I think it has stalled at red lights!!I love my new Sportage and know its the best CUV around...Way to go Kia you hit a homerun with this one!!

Wow it looks great. Finally a Kia that's drivable. Is it just me who thinks there's a bit of Volvo XC60 in there?

Better than the old model. Looks good. The outside is a head turner, I wonder if the interior would be as great.

I drove this car before we bought our Equinox. Its a nice car with a good ride, just missing a few features we needed.
