Old Saab Tech Sold to China, New Stuff Up In the Air

2009Saab95
Today, GM announced its selling technology and powertrains for its current Saab 9-3 and 9-5 models to Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings, one of China’s car companies. The sale includes old models only, which will likely be more advanced than what the Chinese company is currently producing.

The Associated Press is reporting that GM is still shopping the Saab brand and its new product pipeline, including the new 9-5 and the 9-4X crossover, to other buyers.

Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings was part of the failed group, which included Swedish supercar builder Koenigsegg, that was trying to buy Saab as a whole. It looks like the Chinese company and GM were able to salvage at least part of the deal. GM says there are other companies interested in Saab as a brand, but AP is reporting the automaker will shut down the brand if a deal isn’t finalized.
