Cars.com Ranks the Top 10 Worst Car Names

Equus
Occasionally, cars have names so awkward, so terrible that even if we generally like the vehicles we spend much of our inter-office-banter time ridiculing the moniker. The Cars.com editorial team decided to dip into the past 30 years to come up with the 10 most nonsensical, illogical and embarrassing car names. Behold our list. Although judging from how heated our debate got, we know our readers will have some additions of their own.

I can see Lincoln being on this list because they ditched their old "iconic" names, but I don't see the new names any less memorable than any other letter names cars. The "MK" is a given, so they are basically a letter. Maybe its b/c I am a car nut, but i can remember and identify all the Lincoln names, and all the other Lux cars for that matter- but I do know that most non enthusiasts can't, but I am sure it is not JUST the Lincoln names that they cant remember.

My mother, who owned an ES300 once and loves lexus, calls them "the big one"-LS or "the baby"- IS, lol, I know she couldn't name any other luxury car (besides a 7 or an MKS because she wants one of those and always talks about them). I think she is indicative of most non enthusiasts.

I still don't know the difference between MKZ, MKS and MK... what's the other one?

They could place Acura on the same spot. There were times when you could see Legend and/or Integra everywhere on the road. Once they went to RL and (what is it, TSX?) Acuras started to disappear. May be MDX saved them, I think.

Love this article! Still giggling about the Probe... In the same flavor as the "Lincoln
MK-whatever" Infiniti also has a long list of non-descriptive names; EX35, FX35, G37, M35, QX56...

I had a Ford Aspire back in college and my friends would say it "aspires to be a real car." I ended up replacing the Aspire decal on the trunk with a Festiva badge- as it was still known as the Festiva in other world markets

I always thought the Daewoos had horrible names.

Laganza was one of them I think.
Always made me hungry.

Mercury had some real stinkers - I always thought "Marauder" was a horrible name for a car. Somebody marketed an "Intimidator" edition of their pickup - that sucks too. I agree that Yaris is an odd name, but no more so than "Jetta," but somehow that got left off the list. "Golf" is a weird name for a car, but at least it makes sense because after a couple winters of salt spray you get a "hole in one."

MKZ, MKS, MKX, MKT, MK VIII
Wait, that is the Mark VIII

The Japanese had and still do have cojones to name a vehicle "Mitsubishi". I was only 7 on 7 December 1941 but besides "banzai", Mitsubishi (Zero) was among the first Japanese words I heard and learned what they were.

Hybrit

Art, you're forgetting that mitsubishi secretly designed and built some of the first jet airplanes, which after defeating Japan we confiscated from them and copied for our first jet fighters in the 1950s.
