Recall Alert: 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe

PontiacVibe GM has issued a recall for certain Pontiac Vibe vehicles from the 2009-2010 model years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They are specifically recalling those models equipped with a 1.8-liter engine and originally sold or currently registered in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

GM says that when driving the vehicles in “extremely low ambient temperatures,” the intake manifold suction port for the brake vacuum may become locked because of freezing condensation coming from the positive crankcase ventilation.

This could mean the vehicle’s stopping distance my take a hit and a crash could occur if the brakes are needed in an emergency but don’t respond well.

Dealers will modify the brake vacuum line for free. Owners may contact Pontiac at 800-620-7668 or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236.

has a similar recall been issued for the vibe?

Yea, Cody. Believe it or not, this EXACT SAME recall has been issued for the VIBE.

Now, I'm just curious if this has also been issued for the Matrix - presumably just as you're wondering the same.

There was no recall in today's release from the NHTSA for the Toyota Matrix with the 1.8 liter engine. They are built in different facilities but I'm not sure if that would have any impact on a recall of this type if it's a problem with a mechanical piece, not assembly.

Matrix was already recalled for the same thing at the end of August.

How come the recall for Pontiac and Infiniti are for vehicles sold only in certain states. What happens when it is sold in California (not covered under recall) and that person re-allocates later to one of those states listed in the recall. If there is a safety issue than it should cover vehicles sold in all states.

Yet another Japanese related recall.I would hate to be a Toyota owner now, getting a recall notice in the mail every week without fail. Its Aspen/Volare and Chevy Citation X-car all over again.
