Kids Must Salute Cars in China

Chinesesalute
In a New York Times story on myriad rules imposed at the Chinese government’s local levels comes one that really caught our attention: A Chinese province requires all students at its elementary school in Huangping to stop and salute when cars drive by.

The thinking is saluting will make the children more aware of the cars and possibly the cars more aware of the children, leading them to slow down. The dangerous mountain roads are absent any signs saying there are schools nearby and the government is only beginning to add them.

It’s some odd logic that is getting a lot of negative criticism from the country’s populace. The Chinese government has cracked down on other frivolous rules.

However, locals near the school say there haven’t been any traffic accidents since the practice started.

Very odd...but hey it sounds like it might be working....

In America it wouldn't work because we're ignorant. We will kill each other to get 3 seconds faster to the ramp.
