Guns OK in Car Center Consoles in Illinois
Automakers have been enlarging the compartments in center consoles, which sit between the driver and passenger seats, to answer requests from owners for more storage space for phones, glasses and assorted items. The size wars got so intense that some automakers built these compartments large enough to fit laptop computers. Kelsey Mays shows you how big such a console is in the 2010 GMC Terrain at the two minute mark in the video below.
One use automakers probably didn’t think of for these cubbyholes is to carry guns.
The Illinois Supreme Court ruled that these compartments can be defined as “cases” in terms of gun laws, which require a gun to be in a case when transported in a car. That's where I keep mine. It's so much easier to get to for a "drive by" then in the glove box or under the seat.
I just keep mine on the dash as a subtle reminder to others.
I just forgo any discretion and just drive around in a early 90s Toyota pickup truck with a 50 caliber machine gun in the bed.
Glove box would be ok, if the gun is unloaded. On the dash or in the back seat, if uncased, is a no no.
Although they do not always succeed, sports participants are expected to display good sportsmanship, standards of conduct such as being respectful of opponents and officials, and congratulating the winner when losing.
