Shaq Invests in Home Ethanol System

CindyMurphy-OCRegister NBA superstar, MVP and owner of multiple championship rings Shaquille O’Neal will now throw his considerable weight behind the alternative energy company GreenHouse.

GreenHouse is best known as the creator of the MicroFueler, a portable, at-home micro-refinery system that uses sugar to turn organic waste into fuel. With Shaq as an investor, the company hopes to spark interest in its home-ethanol systems. Shaq has jokingly told reporters that he will eschew the nickname “Diesel” for the more eco-friendly “Big Eth.”

Shaq says that he and his family have always looked for ways to be environmentally friendly.

“I tried it, I liked it," O'Neal told the Orange County Register. "I flew to Southern California to see it first-hand. It's cost effective and it works. Hopefully, with my presence, people will look at [the fuel system] and they'll try it."

The MicroFueler produces ethanol for roughly $2 per gallon, which is below the current national average of $2.62.

Competitive price but few cars can run on pure ethanol. Which means it got to be mixed with gas that complicates things.

^^^ that and cars that run on Ethanol get roughly half the fuel mileage that they would normally get, thus that $2 per gallon can cost the consumer $4 to go the same distance that the normal gasoline powered car will run.

Shaquille O’Neal investing for a cause. His investment will raise public awareness about the the alternate fuel.
He could have found hundreds of other investment options. but to invest in alternate fuel at the time when the oil stocks are reducing is a good step forward. Hats off.
