Recall Alert: 2010 Toyota Corolla

10Corolla Toyota has issued a recall for 1,309 Corollas from the 2010 model year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall is due to a failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.” The driver-side sun visor has an airbag warning label that may fall off. The safety issue is only that this does not meet standard requirements. While the recall is not likely to lead to many accidents, it's an illustration of how many different violations can lead to a recall.

Dealers will replace the label or sun visor for free. Owners may contact Toyota at 800-331-4331 or the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236.

How mighty Toyota has fallen.

You cant be serious its not like an accident has been caused or a death occured.

Stellar

Mitsubishi had a recall because of something similar back in 04 or 05 I believe. Its amazing how something as simple as a typo or not enough glue can lead to a recall.

Recalls are part of the life and business of any car company... but my main concern is how Toyota became the first company in the world and started to lose money after a few months.

By the way, nice try to copy the great Mazda Protege.

"...how Toyota became the first company in the world and started to lose money after a few months."

Thinkerdude ,

remember ancient Greece?
They said: the higher you climb the harder you fall.
thousands years later it is still accurate.

Where? Who? what?

I think they might be expanding a little too much in terms of the number of models and I think that the Scion brand was unnecessary from the beginning; however, I will admit that I am not really sure how much of an impact Scion is having on the overall market or how much it is benefitting Toyota. On the other hand I do know that Lexus has always been doing well ever since it was created.

Expanding also means producing cars in ideal locations to save cost in the long run. Most cars built in Japan are high quality. This statement I can attest to; however, Toyota has assembly plants here in the U.S. and also in Canada for the North American market. The quality of cars coming off these assembly lines are still good but not as good. Small problems with craftsmanship can annoy customers who buy the car with high expectation of quality in addition to reliability. i.e. one of the rubber door moldings on my corolla (assembled in Canada) came loose within the first week. Despite that was the only problem, it worried me for a while since that has never happened to any of my old Toyotas (most of which are assembled in Japan).

Nonetheless, I still think Toyota is a reliable company and perhaps they can fix some issues in terms of quality control.

Also, I apologize if I have stated anything that is incorrect, so feel free to correct me.

Dan

Trust me, on here, if you said something wrong, people wouldn't need your permission to feel free to correct you. Heck, even if you aren't wrong, you can still feel assured that you'll get corrected! :)

This isn't the first time we've seen a recall for something this minor. I seem to recall (oh, the pun is so intended) a while back a recall for a typo in an owner's manual. I've always wondered if a recall is really necessary in these cases, or if something like a TSB would do the trick. That'd allow you to save recalls for stuff like sludge-o-matic engines, or exploding saddle bag fuel tanks. That way when people hear "recall" they'd pay more attention.
Maybe the state of California will do something about this. After all, their governor knows a thing or two about "Total Recall"(s).

Cranky

Toyota just announced a recall for brakes on the Crapolla...Oh what you do for me Tojo Motors!

My company bought 22 2010 Toyota Corolla's and have had to replace all of them between 5000-10000 miles. Toyota reps are saying this is "normal wear and tear", which is total B.S. I have had the brakes replaced with both Japenese and American replacements, which both failed as well. We have now replaced them with ceramic brakes, which seem to be working much better.

We are working on getting reimbursed through Toyota, otherwise we will be forced to file a lawsuit against them.

If you have a 2010 Toyota Corolla and are experiencing this problem, please continue to complain until they start a recall and reimburse us our $5000 we are out because their brake compound sucks!

California

My 2010 corolla had a brake failure issue a couple of nights ago. i pressed the brakes and my corolla would not slow down, this caused me to crash into the rear of another vehicle. i filed a claim with toyota re: their brake issue, we will see what happenes

I bought a toyota corolla 2010 in october 2009. I have had several problems with the brakes. on several ocations I have tried to stop and steped on the the brakes all the way to the floor and they did not work. I have taken my car twice to toyota repair dept. and they said that nothing was wrong, being that they could not duplicate the problem when they drove it around to see what was wrong with it. If you have any advice on how to solve this problem please send me an e-mail at toyotarcllaction@aol.com. I would really appreciate it.

thanks, Tino

Oh my goodness ...So glad to see that I am not the only one . On one hand I am relieved to see that I'm not the only one , but also concerned as nobody seems to be able to get anything resolved . The first time it happened was last winter , I just could not stop and by the grace of God stopped within 6 inches of the car in front of me . I have been driving since I was 16 years old and am now 47 and nothing like that had ever happened to me before . This past winter I thought that I'll try winter tires not wanting to experience that again . Well about a month ago coming home from work one night , I wasn't going that fast and the light turned red .I tried to stop and nothing ...had my breaks pressed right down to the floor and ended up going right through a red light . Good thing it was late and no traffic . So I was disappointed because here I have the winter tires and it did it again . I mentioned it to my husband and he was thinking it was perhaps my driving ,maybe it was just icy underneath the snow ....until it happened to him . THEN TONIGHT ... I was on dry pave with below freezing temperatures but not a drop of ice or snow on the road and it happened again . Its weird because right after it happens ....I test the breaks and they seem to work perfectly fine ...until the next time .I told my husband when I got home I am calling Toyota ...this is NOT normal. I don't feel comfortable driving the car like that . I did a search on the Internet and that is why I am here . The only other thing is that we are in Canada and it was assembled in Canada as far as I know . It also is a 2008 which does not fit the recall .I bet there are a lot of other people out there thinking t hat maybe it's just them , or something else ...but I now convinced after reading all the posts that there is absolutely something NOT right with those breaks .I am going to call my insurance agent to see if there have been more Toyota fender benders or accidents lately as well as book an appointed at the dealer . I am printing off all the comments here as well .

JUST BOUGHT A 2010 TOYOTA COROLLA S AND SO FAR SO GOOD HAD IT A MONTH HOPE ALL WILL BE WELL BUT IM REALLY FEELING LIKE TAKING IT BACK FOR SOMETHING NEW...

Patrick

Good morning, everybody! I've read all of your posts...and they are all valid in their own way. I'm sure that Toyota would not have put out the recall if they felt it unwarrented. Just do as they say...take your vehicle to your local Toyota dealer and let them do whatever work is needed on them. These cars are just that...cars. Whether the breaks give at 5k or 10k is not great...but you also have to remember it's how YOU use them. I drive a MINIMUM of 75 miles, one way, to work each morning and evening in some pretty dense, stop and go traffic. I have yet to experience this issue...thank goodness!I've had my 2010 Carolla since November and have put over 8k on it already. One of the things I've been doing is slowing down using the gear shift, as well as letting my foot off the gas pedal, well before needed. This way...if my breaks do fail..then I shouldn't hit the person in front of me too hard, if at all. Be alert, stay focused, don't panic. You can pull the emergency brake if need be, swerve onto the shoulder(if there is one)and lastly (also the LEAST recommended) you have the option of throwing your car into reverse or park. Either will stop your car...but also kill your engine amongst other things. But if your life, or the lives of others, is dependant on your action(s), then make your choice...and do so wisely. It's easier to replace an engine than to replace a life. I hope you all find your way to your local dealer and get them checked. Also, there was a poster on this blog that recommended ceramic brakes...I concur! They're much better than the ones you have. Good luck all...and safe travels.

I am setting up a networkpage for owners of toyotas with bad brakes. My wife is afraid to drive her car and the brake fade issue is not a myth. It is dangerous and deadly!
her car is 2009 toyota corolla same symptoms as everyone else, brake fade, failure, replacement at 12,000 miles.

I bought my 2010 corolla in Aug09 and I have a couple of problems with the brakes as weel but I notice that the calipers want to stick really bad when it is cold out for about the first 5 miles even after I had let the car worm up to operating temp. I also have a problem with the engine wanting to rev up about 4 or 5 hundred at low speeds after I take my foot off the gas. I have been a loyal toyota owner for 20 years and I feel their quality isn't as good as it once was. I wish I had my 85 supra back.

Charles

Amazing how all of this is coming out at one time. My opinion is that this is our governments way of helping GM. Toyota has passes GM in overall sales and this will knock them down a few notches. Way to go Obama! Socialist Idiot!

Jess

I've had problems with my 2010 corolla's brakes as well. I bought it in July and several times I've had to stop quickly for an animal. Well the brakes just lock up and grind and make this awful sound. The car grinds to a stop way too late. I've never experienced brakes like this and I've driven a bunch of cars. The dealership said the grinding is normal and it's something to do with the ABS! I can't believe I bought this car. I'm so mad at myself.

just bought a 2010 corolla, now has 500 miles ( thats all) and the exhaust system is reeaally rusted along with most of underbody of car, did not notice till other recalls and took a look, does anyone else have this problem??

Anne

my Toyota 2010 car has 20,000 miles but we've had a brake problem since 10,000 miles. if you drive at 30 m.p.h. the car is somewhat manageable. You have have toapply extreme pressure tostop the vehicle now. We just took it to the shop and the mechanic is perplexed as to what is wrong with it. The car is unsafe and dangerous. Toyota should own up to the real problem of the runaway car. It's the brake that is faulty. All that bALONEY ABOUT THE accelorator so toyota could save money. Don't they have any value about human life? I guess it's all about the greed and the money. A human life doesn't matter to them. Too Bad!

Autumn

I just bought my 2010 Toyota Corolla in October of 2010. I did not have any notable problems until I reached almost 6,000 miles. I was driving very slow because I had just pulled out of a parking lot. I was approaching a hill and tried to brake... it would not let me. I ended up driving into someone's lawn for the friction to stop the car and to avoid the hill (as I was pressing on the brake the entire time). So far, I have not received much help from Toyota. If you are considering the 2010 Toyota Corolla, DO YOUR RESEARCH!
