2010 Chevy Camaro Doesn't Get Five-Star Crash Rating

10Camero-f Getting a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is almost a guarantee; cars have become so advanced that they easily pass the government’s current tests. Even NHTSA knows this and is revising its test to be more stringent. That’s why, when the new Chevy Camaro didn’t earn five stars in frontal crash tests, it made headlines around the automotive enthusiast community. Its four-star rating is for both the driver and the front passenger. It did receive five-star ratings for side crashes.

Both the 2010 Ford Mustang and 2010 Dodge Challenger have five-star frontal crash-test ratings.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety — which uses more stringent testing processes — hasn’t rated the Camaro yet.

I see GM hasn't changed one bit. What a major blunder.

If a 5-star rating is so easy then how come there are so many cars that didn't get it: BMW 3-series, BMW 5-series (only 3-star frontal driver rating), Ford Focus, Hyundai Azera, Infiniti EX35, Lexus IS, Mini Cooper, Nissan Altima 2-dr, Saab 9-3, Toyota Corolla, EVERY VOLKSWAGEN tested, Volvo S40, Volvo S60, Mercedes C-class, Mercedes E-class (2009).

Some of the cars H mentions have high femur loads. It'd take knee airbags or structural changes to fix that. The Camaro has high head numbers. Silly on GM's part, but not hard to fix with revised airbags and seatbelts. I'm thinking they will make changes quickly.

Jeez, I just watched the 5 Series frontal crash test video (www.safercar.gov)...wow. Everything underneath the hood just spills out.

Even Hyundai Accent, America lowest price car, earned 5 star safety rating.

The 5 Series platform dates back to 2004 so already it's five years old and thus not a good example. Leave it up to GM to design a 2010 car from the ground up only to have it be incapable of achieving a five star rating in the frontal crash test - something that is considered easily achievable and the competition proves that. This would never happen at Honda, Subaru, or Toyota. It just goes to prove that GM is still GM.

Perhaps you missed how the TOYOTA COROLLA and TOYOTA TUNDRA and LEXUS IS only received 4-star ratings...but...but...but..."this would never happen at Toyota".

People who buy Camaros, Mustangs, and other muscle cars actually look at crash test ratings?

News to me....
