Movers and Losers: June's Top 10

Eclass

As I anxiously awaited data for this month’s Movers and Losers to come in, I wagered as to which highly anticipated new model would top the Movers list, the 2010 Toyota Prius or the 2010 Chevy Camaro? Turns out I was wrong on both counts. Mercedes-Benz’s redesigned E-Class tops the list, followed closely by the Prius, with the Camaro tied for third with … the 2010 Honda Pilot and Toyota Sienna?

Yep, it’s that time of year when new 2010s are just reaching lots, making their time-to-sell quite short. That helped stagnant sellers like the Toyota Tundra also make the list.

Making up the Losers list is a group of the usual suspects, including six Chrysler products.

The average time it took to sell a new 2009 or 2010 model increased only slightly to 79 days in June, up from 78 in May. Include new 2008 models being cleared off lots, and that number is 166 days in June, down from 167 in May.

Check out the full lists and our methodology below.

About the Lists
The Movers and Losers lists report the average number of days it takes to sell models from the day they arrive on the lot until the final paperwork is signed by a buyer. This is not a days of inventory list like you may find on other sites. We’re now focusing on only the 2009 and 2010 model years.

For Movers, we only list vehicles that pass a certain threshold of sales in order to weed out limited editions, models that are being phased out, or other factors that might skew the numbers or otherwise inaccurately portray popularity. For the Top 10 Losers, we lower that threshold greatly because low sales bolster the Loser claim, though they could also indicate other factors, like a model being phased out.

Always nice to see 1 Domestic in the Top 10 Movers and 9 Domestics in the Top 10 Losers.

definitely good idea for Chrysler 2 keep the PT around another year!!??!!

Americans in general have matured their buying standards and as a result they have lost interest in Detroit vehicles.

"Losers." Such harsh language!

But yes, the Galant may indeed qualify:

All above- please see the actual sales numbers. These cars sold quickly because they are new, mostly. Hardly any of them are even in the 10 bestseller list, besides the Camry.

Seriously enough with the ignorant statements. Speak for yourself and only yourself.

It is interesting that the Camry is in the top ten of both movers and sellers. I'm surprised that the Kia Soul fell out of the movers list rather quickly and the Cube has maintained it for 2 months. Wonder what the sales comarison is on those two models. Really no big surprises here though. Chrysler really needs to pack up their tent.

I have also read the GM is having a shortage of vehicles at dealerships. You would think that this would be reflective in the movers list but the Camaro is the only one there.

Oh, yeah, the movers list is full of the cars you can find in the Wal Mart parking lot, yeah, right... looks more for arugula eaters than for the backyard bbq IMHO.

The FJ Cruiser was the same when it came out... and who remembers that car now?

4 of the movers arent even all new so it really has more to do with them being 2010s than anything else. There is no reason for there to be pent up demand for a 2010 5 series or Sienna. Toyota rolls out 2010s early and thus they have a few on the list. To my knowledge few 2010 GMs are on lots.

I guess I could see valid reasons the majority of the top 10 are in the top 10, but I'm still scratching my head with the Sienna.

Remember,
all these cars hit a sales threshhold to meet the list. But yes, because they're the 2010s they're just arriving. Many may drop off next month, but the 5 series has been strong for a while.

mercedes E #1?...guess the recession ain't 2 bad....

Over the weekend I drove the new E550 and it was fantastic. Then I saw the price, nearly $72,000 with lots of options. My smile turned to a frown.

Ziggy,

Soul sales first showed up in Kia's figures for Feb. The Cube launched officially May 5 according to Nissan, so we'll see how long it stays there. For May, Nissan sold 1,745 Cubes vs. Kia's 3,855 Souls. In June it was 2,137 Cubes, 2,811 Souls. I think both these have lots of potential to ring up a lot of sales under the CARS program once it gets going later this month.

broq

I'd take the Soul over the Cube, X-B, HHR, Pt Cruiser, well, all of those type cars. Kia did a really good job on it in my opinion.

Hmmmm.... The #1 mover and loser seem to have the same rear end... It's uncanny... I can't tell the differnce between the Benz and the Galant... Styling definately then has nothing to do with movers and losers.
