Cars.com Reviews the 2010 Chevy Equinox

2010equinoxreviewteaser

Editor Mike Hanley heaps high praise on the redesigned crossover from GM, saying “the redesigned Equinox offers an excellent balance of size and efficiency, roominess and utility, quality and price.” But he also points out some flaws, like a firm ride and even firmer cloth seats. Overall, the Equinox stands out as a big winner. We’ll have more here on the blog next week regarding the 2010 Equinox’s iPod interface and family friendliness.

I'd like to see Chevrolet fix the ugly grille. It does not look good on any of their cars.

Where are the typical real-life pictures you normally include in reviews? I'm getting tired of seeing the same cgi media photos over and over.

H,
It was raining for much of the day when I drove the Equinox in Michigan, making Cars.com photos scarce.

As far as 32 MPG highway, I'll believe it when I see it. It seems unlikely from a vehicle of this size and horsepower. Give it 6 months and see what everyone posts as far as real world numbers.

This suv is AMAZING... I'm CPA, 25, hobbies: beach, work (yes, I work a lot) and paaaaaarty, and definitely the Equinox fit in all those. I really like this vehicle and I believed that GM (which is currently in Chapter 11: Reorganization) knows that in order to be successful in the market segment they are targeting, they must provide great style and quality... and definitely it looks that they are doing something about it. The only thing I need is a test drive and if is like they say… I’ll buy it!!!!! It will be my first car from an American brand.

Mike,
Thanx for the real life review.I'll be getting one of these or the GMC terain. But,I'm on the ropes regarding the AWD option with a 4 cyl.Was the 4 banger enough?I need this car to last 10 years and I'm worried about the engine working harder for an option I might use 3 times a year.

Bopper

I forgot to mention that gas mileage is a concern and the 6 cyl would not be an otion.Thanx for your input.

I can't wait to rent one during my vacation it looks nice in red.

Bopper,
I spent most of my time in a FWD four-cylinder model, and even with the extra weight of a few people along for the ride the engine did fine. The AWD hardware will add the equivalent of an extra person in terms of weight, so I'd be surprised if it had any significant impact on performance.

If you're on the fence about AWD, you might want to consider just getting a set of winter tires with the $1,750 you'd save by choosing a FWD Equinox. Gas mileage would be better, too.

Has anyone reset the average fuel economy tab on theirs? when i reset mine it changed numbers the whole ride home. Im wondering if this is normal and its just trying to find the exact avg now or is it torn up?

I have one. I got 28 mpg on the first tank in mixed driving and Interstate cruising at 74mph. When the average mpg is reset, it will fluctuate wildly at the beginning as its trying to average all of the new variables. as the miles stack on, the variables average out and each fluctuation is barely noticed on the gauge. BTW, the vehicle is fantastic, and although I'm used to driving sportier vehicles, I do not feel penalized by the great suspension and sound deadening. The styling is great as is the fit and finish. I'm VERY happy with my purchase!

I get used to go to parties with many friends and this car will help me a lot.
I hope to work as it shown. I think GM has done a good job as usually. I really need such a car.
