2010 Honda Insight Video

Honda’s rival to the Toyota Prius arrives amid much hype, but how does it stack up? Cars.com’s Joe Wiesenfelder finds much to like in the new Insight, from its driving experience to the fuel-friendly gauges that help him drive more efficiently. Still, the Insight has some hurdles to clear if it’s going to challenge the Prius. Watch the video to find out more.

actually. C&D and CR averaged 38mpg in their tests so I wouldnt say most people are easily beating EPA numbers. With the exception of C&D everyone seems to be in agreement that this car is worse than the Prius in almost every way. While its nice to focus on the fancy gauges and what not the bottom line is the rest of the car is mediocre. I can't believe there were no comments in the video about the 90s vintage interior chock full of brick hard plastics.

I've looked at the Insight up close and it is not an impressive vehicle. It's small and cheap looking. Mileage is OK but not for the price Honda is asking. The Fusion or Prius hybrids would be a much better choice if the buyer can afford it.

The insight made much more sense when we all assumed the 2010 Prius would be substantially more expensive. Now that we know the Insight is only a little cheaper and worse in every way there is little reason to buy the car. The other thing Honda failed to realize is how much competition it would face from its own Fit and Civic Hybrid.

I agree with you OS on both points. If I were in the hybrid market I would definitely get the Prius over the Insight. Better gas mileage for not that much more coin would make the Prius a better deal in my book. Also Hondas Civic Hybrid and Fit are competition. Looking at Fuel economy for city/highway the Insight is 40/43. The Civic hybrid (CVT-AT) is 40/45 the Fit is at the bottom offering with AT transmission 28/35 (however its base price is several thousand cheaper).

@Joe Wiesenfelder
Thanks for (excuse the pun) the Insighful review.

JM

If Honda would develop a true "full hybrid" system instead of the fancy mild-hybrid system it has now, both the Insight and Civic hybrid could get MPG's to rival the prius

Original sheth

Mileage is only part of the problem, the car is just mediocre dispite the US media refusing to say so. Honda set out with one goal- make the most affordable hybrid on the market. Mission accomplished but they forgot to make the car GOOD.

Ziggy

I guess the media is only right when it gives GM a positive review.

Gee first Japan attacks Pearl Harbor and now they have the US Media conspiring with them. It's obvious that the education levels among US trailer parks hasn't improved.

ZIGGY:

Your statment make no sense. Much of the media has said the Insight is inferior to the Prius and is lacking in many regards. They just wont come out and say the car is a complete disappointment. Did you read the CR review of this car? They blasted it and wont recommend it.

"It's obvious that the education levels among US trailer parks hasn't improved."

Nothing wrong with living there. Don't be embarrassed. I think you are silly, but it has nothing to do with where you live. Trust me.

Belly

Here we go with Shet's bs again, first he tells ziggy the Insight is mediocre, then he says Honda can't make the car good, then he whines that the media won't call the car a complete disappointment... which one is it? Just because Chevy can't get there stuff together and get the Cruze OR the Volt out anytime soon - this is no reason to bust on a very good hybrid car.

Steve

According to OS we should listen to Consumer Reports. If thats the case then great. CS blasts 90% of what GM makes. OS - you can't have it both ways.

Original sheth

Steve:

PLease dont challenge me until you do some research. CR rates most modern GM vehicles HIGHLY. They dont recommend many of them due to "reliability" which is basically due to squeaks and rattles. CR has said GM's recent vehicles look good, are well built and handle well. Get your facts straight. A CR road tests is not the same as their reliability rating.

Belly:

None of the stuff you claimed I said is even contradictory. And yet you say I need to make up my mind. Stop being irrational.

steve

I guess reliability isn't important to you. That's why you like GM.
