2010 Chevy Camaro SS on Hold for Transmission Issues

CamaroSS There will be a temporary hold on shipment of Chevy Camaro SS models equipped with a manual transmission, GM said. Some owners have reported problems after using the Launch Control feature, including output shaft failures.

The Camaro SS uses the Tremec 6060 gearbox, which is used in other V-8 models.

To be clear, GM has not issued a recall, only an “in production review.” Also, the Camaro LS and LT models are not affected by the hold and will continue to be sent to dealers. The hold could potentially turn into a recall, so we will keep you posted.

I think the Nissan GT-R had a similar problem if I can remember correct. I think it's a stupid feature anyway. it's for retards who can't drive a stick and need help "launching" quicker.

Stellar

I still really really like these cars but you'd think after all these years of development they would've worked the bugs out. But it would make sense that the bugs show up out in the real world. Can't fix everything before it breaks. I have also heard of the GT-R having these same problems, but the way it seemed to me that Nissan wasn't covering it under warranty due to being caused by carelessness.

Well if you have a big dog car like the GT-R or the SS and you put real transmissions in them, they have to put features in to allow the not as skilled to use them. Sometimes I think you should have to take a test to drive a car like this, only because it saves the hassle of breaking parts due to the inability of the driver, and consequential misuse of the car.

Launch control is normally something as simple or like a two step rev limiter. You use it to make for more consistent launches. Not "retards". The system on the R35 GT-R held a certain RPM and then engaged the clutch when the brake was released. The Camaro holds a certain rpm, and when you release the clutch it swtiches over to a secondary rev limiter. Most drag cars you see use one. If you want to be smarter, you use technology to your advantage.
