Reader Review of the Week: 2009 Honda Insight

Reader Review “Out of Sight” from San Marcos, Calif., went to buy a 2009 Honda Insight and ended up somewhat disappointed after opting for a lower trim level. What’s the difference between the LX and EX? This reviewer has the details, but maybe the Insight just wasn’t the car he was looking for after all. Read on to find out what vehicle he wants to upgrade to when the time comes. After you read the full review, make sure to post your own here.

2009-honda-insight “I went to dealerships and looked at many cars until I bought this one. I asked if these cars had nav systems and moonroofs, and the salesman told me no, but I bought it for my wife anyway. Then later I found out that there is the EX model, which was closer to what I was looking for.

“Now that I've driven my LX and tested the EX, I can say the LX is not worth the money compared to the EX. The LX doesn't have cruise control, a nav system, stability control -- having the extra things that the EX model has is well worth the money. Of course I was not smart for not researching, but if you really want a nice Insight get the EX, and forget the LX.

“The LX is also not as fun as the EX. When you drive an LX, it feels like you're driving a cheap Ford Focus.

“I like the Insight, but I will trade it for a Prius because that gets better gas mileage, and the 2010 is more powerful. It also has better features, and it looks the same anyway.”

There is no such thing as a 2009 Honda Insight. It is a 2010 model. That makes me suspicious of this review. The brochure clearly shows what is available. Not sure how it could be missed.

I do agree that the EX is worth the extra money - and is still far less than a Prius. There is an EX without navi and an EX *with* navi. The navi is well worth it too!

The "reviewer" knows the difference between a Prius and Insight but didn't know the difference between the LX and EX trim levels before dropping his $20g's? This is internet journalism at it's finest as it does not pass the sniff test.

Impressed by 3rd gen prius

The Insight LX doesn't have stability control but the ex does. i drive a car with out stability control & would not ever buy another car without stability control. the prius II has stability control standard. the honda charges extra for a cargo cover. The prius has the cargo cover included in the base package. The insight ex with a cargo cover & floor mats comes to $22,309 destination and handling. The Prius II with floor mats comes to $22,950 after destination and handling. I have been following the insight for about 2.5 years. Spy shots, rumors, facts, reviews & test drove one the day it was released in the USA. I really liked it the first time I drove it because I was driving a car I had been waiting for for a long time! Not to mention that it put Toyota in a position to think carefully about what price the 3rd gen Prius was going to be sold at. I was never a fan of Toyota & the 2nd gen Prius was a joke. I could not understand how Toyota had sold so many of these cars. If Honda would have come out with the Insight at the same time as the 2nd gen Prius Honda would be # 1. The Insight is superior to the older Prius. But the difference in the 2 cars with similar features is not a lot ... at least I don't think it is. Test drive the 3rd gen Prius before you buy an insight. You will be amazed at the new Prius! I was so impressed I placed an order for a 2010 Prius after driving it for 20 minutes. I am not a fan of the hybrid shape but the 2010 Prius is undeniably amazing.

Damn, too bad they don't have nav systems on BASE MODELS.

Ignorant is a blessing.

Just driving the 2010 Prius vs Insight I believe will show the buyer the superiority of the Toyota. The Prius I see being more comfortable, quieter, better features, more interior room. The car seems & drives much bigger. The Toyota is farther evolved, "that" is why it is the top selling hybrid. Case closed.
