Conan O'Brien's Questionable Taste in Cars

While we love Conan O’Brien and his new gig on “The Tonight Show,” we’re learning he’s no Jay Leno when it comes to automotive tastes.

First, there’s his self-admitted love of his ancient Ford Taurus SHO, which made an appearance in his first episode as “Tonight Show” host. Then, last night we caught him in a skit with Donald Trump opening a trunk full of The Donald’s new book. The car? It’s a new Acura TL, which has been much-maligned because of its design.

And based on the sales numbers, Conan appears to be one of a very few people who bought one.

After bragging so much about the Taurus SHO, we can only assume the TL is more of a daily driver. Still, Leno was buying a new vintage car every week when he was hosting.

For the record, the staff of Cars.com has plenty of suggestions if Conan blows it and one of us is tapped to host late night’s most famous hour.

How about a Pontiac G8?

Why keep dogging on the early SHO's? In their day, they were one hot car (the earlier the better, almost every year the gained weight)

I think better of him as a person. He makes plenty of money to afford much nicer cars, but isn't obnoxious enough to do it just cuz he can.

actually, the TL's driving experience is a conbination of Lexus and Infiniti...the sterring is responsive, but it lacks any real feel any can be a little light. the car doesnt handle as good as a European sedan, but its no DTS or ES350. its competent to drive, but its the disaster of an interior that is hard to get past.

I don't know about you. But, if you are a hardworking US auto worker ... If you take pride in what the US auto industry is trying to do in turning things around ... I think that I would boycott the Tonight Show with Conan. He really has a love of foreign cars and continues to make tasteless jokes about U.S. cars. And whenever he showcases a "good" car, it is always a Japanese car. He is no Jay Leno in many ways than one. We miss Jay!!

I have owned an 89 S.H.O., which my ex took and trashed (banging head on keyboard), and now own a 91+ S.H.O. that I dumped an additional 2500 into after purchasing to bring it up to mechanical perfection. I would take this car coast to coast without reservation 1 and love the way it drives. Fast and comfortable. Who could ask for anything more for 5 grand? What I'm saying is, I know and appreciate Conan's love for this car.
