Website Gathers Commuting Horror Stories

Gridlock Do you have an awful commute?

Sometimes the only thing that makes a commute better is complaining about it. Now, nonprofit group Transportation for America wants to be the friendly ear you talk off. That’s the idea behind its new website, where people can let off steam about their skull-aching daily commute.

Of course, it’s not just that Transportation for America wants to hear you whine. The group is a public-policy lobby that advocates walking, biking and public transit. The group wants to reduce per capita car mileage by 16% and transportation-related carbon-dioxide emissions by 40%. It wants to use real-life stories to build support for more public transportation options in the upcoming transportation bill (usually known as the “highway bill” because that’s mostly what it funds).

The current transportation bill expires Sept. 30, and the Democrats in charge in Congress have signaled that they want to push more funding toward public transit.

Do you have your own awful work commute? Let us know in the comments what your drive to work is like, and what you would do to change it. If you take public transit and want to complain, too, feel free.

My commute is from my bedroom to the kitchen for coffee and then my office off the kitchen...it's quite lovely!

A friend of mine who is married happens to work at home (software support). He says traffic is a b*tch.
